A place for those who "Trust the Fungus"

After looking at the extended storyboard version of the devo-chamber scene, I noticed that Simon's "jelly" suddenly appears on the floor, giving Koopa something to slip on. (Either that or Toad made a stinky when he stood up. ) But Simon is in the scene later, so I'm not quite sure what the deal is.

Anyone have any ideas? Perhaps Koopa originally was going to give someone else a taste of the "primordial" setting?

Also, I've always found it weird how, when Koopa is entering the room, a voice shouts, "What a lousy chamber! Ever since Koopa took over..." then Toad says, "And you, Koopa, you're a lousy leader!" Perhaps both of those were said by Toad, but when set right next to each other, they sound very different. If that was someone else, that would support my theory that Koopa was de-evolving two convicts.

Yeah, you're absolutely correct. In the original script (and kinda somewhere in those storyboards), someone (be it bloober, wart, simon, lemmy, it changed a million times, which is probably why they cut it out) does in fact get de-evolved into slime BEFORE Toad gets turned into a Goomba. That's why there is green slime on the floor. I've heard that the full scene was in the theatrical release, but I can't confirm that. I don't know why they would cut something like that, it's kind of weird having a green puddle appear out of nowhere. Also, I have a quick clip of a special effects shot in one of my behind the scenes videos that shows the person moving forward in the chair, and turning into goo (just like in the storyboards).

*ahem* Anyway, you say it changed a million times... So do you have more than one script? Or was it in the book or something?

And do you know, by any chance, which one of those characters said the line "What a lousy chamber"? Seriously, when I first rented the movie, I watched that scene over and over again, trying to figure out who was saying that! I would have to assume that, if it was in the theatre release, it wasn't Simon!

Lastly (I can't stop! ), is the behind the scenes footage you're talking about in The Making of Super Mario Bros.? Sorry if I'm giving away some of your website's secrets. I can't help myself...

Speaking of original script, how is that word by word transcript coming? Not to sound pushy or anything, I know you're probably really busy. I'm just dying to read it is all. Maybe give us a % of how far you are?

Yeah the novel says it's the Devo technician who sneezes and Koopa says "we can't have you spreading germs" and pushes him in the chair. I believe it was the guy with the hard hat who helps Goomba Toad out of the chair as you don't see him once the fight breaks out. He gets turned into slime.

The storyboards are interesting in that it happens before Toad rather than after as it would've happened in the movie. One thing that is kinda weird is when Koopa tells Simon to de evolve Toad, Simon is the guy with the mustache throughout most of the movie. "Nobody touches President Koopa" but the bald guy with the suit is the Devo Controller? He's turning the dial and actually controlling it. Weird.
