UPDATE--12/15/10:
Just caught this one from the Reelz Channel. SMB made the 10/10 spot, but it's also worth noting that this was voted on by fans.

Here's another one. SMB makes the bottom of the list again, but yes--it's a "best of" list, so that's good.

UPDATE--9/27/10:
I haven't seen this one before, but here it is:

Again, it's at the bottom of that list, but it still proves that opinion is changing.

What do you guys think? This is the first time I can remember seeing the film listed on a list of the best video game movies. Just another example of the shifting perspective of the film.

Really glad to see this! People are finally starting to realize they shouldn't be ashamed to like the movie.
See...we just need to make everyone start thinking it's COOL to like the SMB film!

Re: Super Mario Bros. finally on a "Best Video Game Movies"
Nice. I actually noticed this trend myself after reading through video game movie adaptation lists, both old and new, and noting that the SMB movie slowly went from first place ("worst") towards the back of the list ("not so bad"). I'm surprised it actually got onto someones "best of" list, though, even as the worst of the best. I would think "honorable mention" would be more appropriate for most people.
However, I'm not sure what the criteria for this list is: best film, or best film of a game? If the former, I think Super Mario Bros. ranks pretty high, if the latter, I think it isn't as good an adaptation, but it would certainly still be on the list.
I also want to find out if perspective of the movie is really shifting so much, or if they're just releasing worse (video game) movies.

Just be glad Uwe "Weevil" Boll didn't get his grubby little protuberances on SMB.

If another SMB movie were to be made it should be either Paul W.S anderson or Jon Faverau directing.

I don't believe another Super Mario film can be made, live-action or otherwise. The franchise has simply developed beyond the need or capacity for one. Anderson, however, would not be my first choice for another live-action attempt.

Whats with the hate for this guy, all of his VG movie adaptions were good.

I don't hate Anderson, but I also don't believe he's a very good choice for adapting video games. He's certainly done a good job at making movies that are enjoyable to a wide audience, but this has been at the cost of a faithful adaptation.
His Resident Evil movies have become less and less faithful to their namesake inspiration and more a vehicle to carry Milla Jovovich (his wife). I do enjoy the first Resident Evil movie and maintain that it's one of the best and most faithful video game adaptations ever, but the shift from a George Romeroesque survival-horror genre to a post-apocalyptic action series just doesn't sit well with me.

^Yep. They're good movies, but not like the game so much.
I saw the newest film (Resident Evil: Afterlife) and it did have more game elements in there than the last couple of movies. However...they didn't explain them and they just kind of showed up and totally didn't fit with the world they had set up for the franchise.

Millions of years of climbing up from the ooze, instantly reversed. Imagine the horror as it all slips away. It's worse than mere death. It's being undone

That second list follows the "It's so bad, it's good" mentality, which I don't particularly agree with, but it is nice that someone could enjoy it in some way when most choose to hate it no matter what.

Re: SMB finally on (4) "Best Video Game Movies" lists
I find it interesting that other than Mortal Kombat none of the movies on the Reelz Channel count-down are blatantly "video game" movies. Most on the list were adapted from games that had a filmable premise that wouldn't immediately strike you as having video games as an origin. Most of the films from the tenth to fifth slot were also very financially quiet rather than total failures. This is a strange list indeed.
I don't like the suite101 listing. It states everything is bad, including the "bizarre" creature effects and the "god awful" special effects, which we all know are groundbreaking for the time. SMB is much more than simply "entertaining."
