Bewitched is offered as an example of a self-referential, meta styling that would do a "Mario" movie justice while admitting it's a bad one.
The Princess Bride would have been a better choice.

I see that they were trying to be amusing, but a lot of the "humor" is derived from poking fun at the movie with information we now know to be simple misconceptions. Some of which should be obvious to any Mario fun, such as why they opted for Daisy over Peach. (Hint: "Peach" didn't exist as a character until four years
after the movie was written)
The real problem with this article is that it seems to have been written solely to bash the movie under the guise of a comparison piece. The suggestions for a "good" Mario movie would work for a cartoon, maybe, but not for a film. This is just another unqualified fan thinking they could have done it better.
