Some of you may not have seen it yet but there's a Machinima-style trailer of a gangster-themed Super Mario Bros. movie that's become increasingly popular over the last couple of days.
It just saddens me to see the Mario characters get this kind of treatment. It's no different from inserting sex and violence into Pokemon; it simply destroys the overriding theme and character of the original world. Even more disheartening is reading the constant suggestion that this is how the movie "should have been."
All I can say is, really? How is this any more faithful than the actual movie? Simply naming the characters after those in the games and giving them poorly-inspired color-schemes does not make for an adaptation. There's nothing in this world that clearly connects it with Super Mario Bros. It's just two guys named Mario and a Luigi doing dangerous things in a dangerous world.
The actual movie at least made an attempt to reconcile its realism with elements of the games. It made an attempt to bring those themes to a new story beyond a simple name-drop, albeit with different functions. This video just opts to slap names of characters and places we know onto something that could easily be any typical mob movie. It just has no heart. Our movie had heart.

Re: GTA "The Brothers Mario" Video
While I agree it is rather sad and ridiculous to call THIS a decent adaption, I think the intention was a joke.
You see, it parodizes what many people thought the actual movie did which was to slap the names of mario characters on to anything and call it an adaption (Which we all know by now, is definetly not the case).
They're also parodizing how hollywood makes videogames now-a days. Which is adding lots of violence and gore in hope that people will like it.
But now that I look at it, yeah, the movie was way more faithful, even if, many people didn't notice it.

Isn't this a little feminine?
Yes. I know. It was my ex wife's.

This movie was funny, I enjoyed it. I don't see what the gripe about it is.

That does seem like what they're trying to do as I can't honestly see a game website unironically pawning this off as a legitimate pitch for a Mario Bros. movie. I love that kind of satire but my real problem is how so many people clearly don't get it.

My gripe is the thousands of people that complain about the movie being an unfaithful adaptation somehow thinking this is any more legitimate and what we "should" have got. That's just hypocritical and stupid.

As "funny" or "cool" as things like this *can* be, it pisses me off to hear people say junk like "This is what the movie should have been" or "They should make a new SMB movie like this." Seriously--after years of these same people blasting the movie we got?
Frankly, our film shows more respect and reverence to the games than this trailer does by a longshot. Redstar hit the nail on the head about our movie having heart--it makes all the difference in the world.

Re: GTA "The Brothers Mario" Video
Well heres what i think about the video:
Good: 50%
Bad: 50%
That's it really. It can go either way with me. Because there actually are some funny references the game in there. (Lol, when Luigi says "what's with the mask? You guys shy???" To the guys tha have masks on.") And honestly there is a part of me that would pay to say it. I mean how often do you get Mario movie where instead of trowing fireballs you can shoot goombas with bazookas?
And there's the part of me that says "Don't waste your time with it." And I gotta say it has a point. For all of those who say all the Mario Movie did was slap the names of characters on things, all I'd say is "Well then how is this any different?" It does exactly what the movie did, theres a sgn that says Minus World on a little store, there are Bullet Bill stores, Hammer Bros. Stores ansd a Boom Boom bar! Yoshi and Toad make an apperance in the video, both make characters make an appearence in the movie and Yoshi is an actual dinosaur!
There are guys called Goombas in the video, in the movie there are Goombas and they are actually creatures! Basically the movie printed names on many things too but we got more of them and some actually represnted the game counterparts. Why go for quanity instead of going for quality. And in the movie you both quanity and quality both as a bonus!
And like I said in the smb reference page Dinohatten which is ruled by Koopa is dark and morbid maybe like how the Bowser levels are in the games? Sure, the vidoe has lotso f sprites from the games, and many other funny references but the movie actually tries to mirror the games like Mario sneaking into Koopa's Tower just like he snook into Koopa's Castle in the games.
Plus what makes the movie better is that, its fun! It has funny moments, good songs, good music, realistic but somewhat cartoony effects, and a slow but still entertaining pipe slide at the end. Its uplifting but still contains a darker tone to it. Unlike the video wheras its always dark and the jokes while funny don't seem to uplift the mood long. Wheras the movie's jokes are more or less at the right time, and make you at least chuckle.
So that's my thoughts on the video, feel free to agree or disagree anything that i pointed out. The video is entertaining but no where near replaces gthe movie.

I found this funny, but I admit it's not in the spirit of Mario. No guns, not bullet shooting ones anyways. But I do like the "realistic" look, what I mean by "realistic" is that they look like actual human beings, instead of caricatures. I'd just love a game where I can be Bob Hoskins or Capt. Lou Albano running around. I wouldn't want something just about murderous killing as far as a Mario game goes. But I 'd laugh at this, it's sorta like the Godfather, if he was a plumber.

Yeah, I heard about that a few months ago. Didn't even bother to watch it like I did the first one. Just such a stupid concept.
