Would you want Hoskins back as Mario if the chance came?
Since hollywood now has the technology to make actors look young again and have them play roles at any age, if a new SMB movie was in the works and Hoskins was offered to return do you guys think that would be a good idea?

Totally!
Bob Hoskins was the perfect Mario. Most of his lines were smart@$$ comebacks, but, with a little more heart, he would be the exact real life translation for Mario, at least during the 'Brooklyn Mario' era. I would also like John Leguizamo back, he was a good Luigi

Sadly, both Hoskins and Leguizamo simply look too old for their original roles. Even Samantha Mathis, who is still quite beautiful, has begun to show her age. If they were to make a reboot I would not want any of the original actors to return.
Additionally, it seems as if all the likely candidates have aged out. Can't think of any current Hollywood stars that would fit the bill for either brother.

I think it's a bit too late for a sequel to that movie to make any sense. If anything, an entirely new movie, ignoring the old one would have to be made, probably with some relatively unknown actors i'd think.

Um did you not see Tron legacy? What they did with Jeff Bridges?

The digitalized Jeff Bridges was within Tron, correct? There was certainly some "uncanny valley" going on with those effects, no matter how revolutionary, so in most cases I don't think it would necessarily work. It only did with Tron because it was a digital world.
Also, by "too old" I also meant that Leguizamo, Hoskins and Mathis simply aren't in the public conscious anymore. They're no longer viable pop icons that would draw in the kids.
Re: Would you want Hoskins back as Mario if the chance came?
IMO, having a new SMB movie with "hip" stars would completely ruin it for me.
Since I'm so attached to the movie we have I can't really see anyone else in the roles. But if a new film was made, and the casting was as inspired as the original and it was "story first," I could *probably* handle it.
That said, make an animated sequel to the first film with the same stars as the '93 film. Leguizamo and Mathis (and Hoskins probably also) have voiceover experience. Oh, and they're terrific actors, too.
I'm not a marketing expert, but I don't think the kids who would see the film are as concerned about which actors are in it. I think that's more of a thing to draw in adults who normally wouldn't see it.

John is hanging in there with the public, Hoskins faded out 100% though. Roger Rabbit 2 might be a comeback for him if they are still trying to get him back.
Also latley ive been thinking that Shia Lebouf would make a good Luigi if a new flick was made.
Re: Would you want Hoskins back as Mario if the chance came?
Shia Labeouf *gag*... I would never watch a movie with him in it. Never.
Re: Would you want Hoskins back as Mario if the chance came?
Leguizamo is one of my favorite actors and I would love to see him back. Hoskins is amazing in just about everything so having him back would be welcome as well. As much as I would love for them to come back I just don't see that happening even if they were offered large amounts of money.
I would rather the original cast come back older than give the franchise over to Justin Bieber and Jack Black.

At this point I think it'd be cool if Hoskins, Leguizamo and Mathis came back for an animated sequel/series.

You know what. If they did reboot, I would actually go more with unknowns. That way we can keep them for longer.

And if it tanked again, they could simply wash their hands of the whole affair. Go into "Bad Movies Protection"...change their names, the whole shebang.
