"In which our critic embraces the Super Mario Bros. movie"

io9 just posted this on Friday.Haven't read it yet, but at a glance, I see no mention of the site here. Still, good to see someone come to the movie's defense on a fairly prominent site.
Come to think of it, I thought Destructoid or someone had an updated "stand up for the Mario movie" article (I found one from 2007), but I can't seem to find it now.
Is there a section of the site which links to articles around the web which feature or focus on the movie? I think there probably should be, for better or for worse. That's just my opinion, though, but it might give people some fodder for topics here on the forum, stuff to agree with, refute, or whathaveyou.
Not to mention, along with the movie's reviews from back in the day, perhaps give a timeline of sorts as people seem to appreciate the movie more as time goes on...
...save for those of us who were there on Day 1 and walked out with big smiles on our faces, differences be damned.

There's no mention of our site or any of the work we've been doing recently. I even called out the writer for it since io9 is on the same network as Kotaku, which has been doing coverage on us recently. I was surprised that he wouldn't give a brief namedrop, even if just to some of those articles. He
explained to me that his articles typically just "respond" to "bad films" rather than offer any depth, then he linked to Rotten Tomatoes to "prove" that the movie is bad.

You're thinking of
Why the Super Mario movie is an underappreciated masterpiece, which was a sarcastic piece, but is frequently re-posted as a sincere testimony.

There's no such section on the site, but we do have the
Non-official reviews (Video and Text) thread where such reviews are dumped. We've had a lot more coverage of the site itself, so we might devote a section to that soon.

That was the latter piece I referenced; I could have sworn there was another more recent... or maybe on another site. Hmm...

I can't think of any, which is strange since I make a habit of seeking out any reviews and articles of the movie I can find. I've probably come across just about every significant piece I can, so I can tell you that positive articles are scarce. I can't recall anything like what you've mentioned.

It was really odd to see this on i09/Kotaku with no mention of this site at all.
Still, I was glad for a change they weren't flat out trashing the movie...although they did get some things wrong and equated it to a "get stoned and enjoy" type of movie. Oh well.

People just can't seem to fathom that the movie has sincere fans. Just a week or so ago we were getting tweeted at by four different people, each stating that we were "delusional" and "likely autistic" for enjoying the movie. They called us liars when we said that more than one person runs the site and wouldn't even check to confirm it.
Bottom line: people don't seem to know how to Google and find us as a first page-result. Is there that much a stigma to the movie that people refer only to the Nostalgia Critic review without bothering to check otherwise?

I can't really say much at the moment, but let's just say I have "plans" which I hope might draw some positive attention to the movie, and maybe direct people here.
But honestly? Don't ask about it. All I'll say is that the movie's 18th anniversary is less than a week away, with its two-decade anniversary two years after that, and that's what I'm looking at.

Looking forward to whatever these plans may be. Phlibbit and I have our own, but they're pretty far-reaching so who knows if they'll really pan out. If they do, though, be ready for a ride...
(Also, glad to see the banner in your signature finally fixed

Thanks; I didn't even realize I had it plugged in until last night. Switching servers must have messed it up...
...and now I'm dealing with the domain issues. If anyone wants to visit, check out
http://pmo.bumpheli.com for the time being, until I can get that fixed up.
As for my avatar, well, I have plans for that which won't be realized until about August. ;P
Anyway, eager to see what plans you guys have as well.

The funny thing is I even like the NC but his episode on Super Mario Bros is one of his worst. Some folks haven't even seen the movie, they just go by his review. It's almost as if people
want it to be bad and can't make a judgment for themselves.
I'll bet if they had a convention that focused on the movie they would be shocked at how high the attendance would be.

The thing with Doug Walker (The Nostalgia Critic), is that people take his videos TOO Seriously, just like The Angry Video Game Nerd. People don't get that they HIGHLY exaggerate their opinions to make a comedic video, so then they hate the movie or game just because they said so, and they don't get that it's just comedy, and not a honest opinion, at least most of the time.

We should post it on our website's main page proclaiming it's a sincere testimony just to piss off the haters.

Eh, there's exaggeration, and then there's flat-out inaccuracy. Harping on the whole "father" thing falls more into the latter, and becomes something of a distracting point which can hurt the whole product.

And then there's the fact that it was like his FOURTH VIDEO of over a hundred videos to date! He'll, look at the video quality, listen to the sound quality, look at his hat! Besides, in his sonic video commentary he even admitted at saying he liked AOSTH maybe that could be the same here. Though I still would like nitpick that review about SMB.
EDIT: Also since this was a VERY EARLY episode, Doug probably didn't have as big an audience as he does and never thought anyone would take notice of it.

All of that is noted, but I don't think it makes a difference-- I think the review suffers a bit for it, especially since that seems to be what people home in on, plain and simple.
