H.R. Giger's Influence on "Super Mario Bros."
I was looking through the pre-production artwork and I noticed that much of it is very similar (art-wise) to the work of H.R. Giger, the man who designed the Alien in the original 1979 "Alien," and worked as head artist on countless other films including Species, Killer Condom and Poltergeist II: The Other Side. I checked his IMDb page, and it says nothing about being involved with the making of "Super Mario Bros," but it is easy to look at his artwork and see how it may have influenced the directors and artists working on the film. Has anyone else ever noticed this?
What would you do without your big brother?
I'd like to give it a shot and find out.

Re: H.R. Giger's Influence on "Super Mario Bros."
I can't say anything in the film or what's currently on the site felt like shades of Giger's work, but we do have some pre-production artwork by art director Walter Martishius that's absolutely grotesque, bizarre and mechanical. We have an interview planned with him at some point, so asking if he was influenced by Giger is certainly a good point.
