A place for those who "Trust the Fungus"

This is my absolute favorite time of year, late December. We get Christmas followed quickly by my all-time favorite holiday, New Year's Eve. It's at this closing of the year that I get together with my Father and Brother and we sit around all day on the thirty-first watching movies, maybe go out to the theater and see a movie (This year it will be "Sherlock Holmes II: A Game of Shadows.") and then come back home, watch more movies (probably going with "Django" and "Django Strikes Again" this year) and then watch the ball drop and close the year out once and for all. It's always a great day. Does anyone else have any New Year's Eve traditions?

I usually put on Ghostbusters II, 'cause that's New Year's Eve--I even bring out my Stay-Puft doll with its "Happy New Year" ribbon that I made in 2004.

However, this year something's gonna change. This year, Santa's bringing me the DVD of Doctor Who: The Movie, with Paul McGann. Y'know, it takes place on New Year's Eve! It will be a tremendous privilege, putting that on; it's the one thing that got this whole train a-rollin' fifteen years ago.

We don't have traditions, per say, in my family when it comes to any holiday, but since we don't really drink this is usually the time when we like to treat ourselves to sparkling cider. Always a good drink!

Last year I "borrowed" my mother's car only 20 minutes from midnight and rushed to see my girlfriend in time to kiss her at midnight. We managed it just in time.

This New Year's eve, I'm going to pop in the Super Mario Bros. movie and eat something with a face. haha.

So will I. And I'll enjoy it...with fava beanth...and a nithe glath of Chianti.

I think between the two hour "Sherlock Holmes II: A Game of Shadows" and the four hour "Once Upon a Time in America," I'm fairly booked. I might watch "Super Mario Bros." in the morning of New Year's Eve, but I usually break out a really big, long epic film at the end of the year. In this case, it's Sergio Leone's "Once Upon a Time in America."

Now that I know my schedule it seems I'll be working on New Year's Eve. The club holds a party every year and the waitstaff pulls straws to determine who goes home the earliest.

However, I'll be dishwashing. That I'll have to stay as long as there's dishes and glasses to clean. I've been told that could be as late as 3am.

We used to have large parties with us and 2 other families when I was younger but work schedules changing over the decades have kinda killed that. One family works for GM so it's hard to tell their schedule, walmart has my dad working every new years eve now, and the other family has a sick son who they don't want to get too far from.

I'll be here watching the Twilight Zone marathon and gaming (maybe working on props) and my mom'll probably be asleep or bored as she hates twilight zone

Well, it's almost 8AM on the big day. I'm the only one in my house that's awake yet. But I've decided to go see "Mission Impossible IV: Ghost Protocol" tonight instead of "Sherlock Holmes II: A Game of Shadows," as the former is getting scathing reviews from both professional critics and fans of the first movie as well.

I've also got a number of movies ready to watch today before the day is done, including Django, Django Strikes Again and the big finale to the year: Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in America. This is going to be a good day to close the year.

I was working at the country club from 4pm to 1:30am. I had expected to get off around 3am, but we were pretty much done for a half an hour before we finally talked to the bar manager and he let us head off early.

It was a fun night. It was slow at first and really only busy for an hour or so, then it slowed down again at the very end when everyone was just dancing. We served lobster with scallops and Parmesan, steak, potatoes and numerous appetizers. I was able to grab one of the lobsters and steak and take it home, where I shared with my girlfriend while we watched Horrible Bosses. We finished a whole bottle of Martinelli's sparkling cider and had a sparkling apple-cranberry, but forgot it in the freezer and it exploded.

Yeah, I made the mistake of trying to screen a four hour art-house film (Once Upon a Time in America) to my father and brother, who are more accustomed for shall we say... lighter material? Thankfully the night was saved when we watched "Fiddler on the Roof," which completely redeemed the evening.

I was online chatting with my friend, dad was at work, and mom went to bed early when she realized I had no interest in it being new years eve.
