Luigi's Mansion/Evil Dead Crossover

Postby ultimateemail5000 » Tue Feb 21, 2012 5:38 am

I just got done redrawing the original Japanese SMB cart artwork and saw that request so I picked up my sketchbook again and started, and finished. I used a reference pic of Deadite Ash and basicly re-did it with Luigi. Here it is.

I have this idea for a Evil Dead and LM crossover for a comic. I'd really like to do a few pages if I get time. It's basicly the same story, Luigi takes Daisy to a Mansion for a romantic weekend, but finds out it's haunted. Prof. E Gadd leaves a tape recorder with his tranlsations of the Necronomicon (in this the book is made of skin from dead Toad's) he resites the passage which as a joke is the jibberish he speaks in the game and that causes the ghosts to come haunt Luigi, posessing Daisy, etc.

He could even hit up the work shed that's in the first game and use his Poltergiest 3000. Also go into detail about the hanging shadow of Luigi. Could Luigi be dead the whole time and fight off the ghosts so his soul can R.I.P.? Or will he end up in limbo?

I think this idea would make an awesome crossover, its fun and silly, plus LM and ED would make a perfect combo.

Sounds fun! I'd love to read the comic. It'd be a lovely parody. :)

13 pages are written and 2 are drawn out just need to be inked and colored. I really love how its turning out. The story seems to be moving fast pace so im aiming at atleast 20 or 30 pages. Something and short.

Are we going to have Luigi cutting up Daisy with a chainsaw? Or Peach getting, um... well, you know... by rogue trees? Have you actually seen the original 1979 "Evil Dead?" It's horrifying. It's along the lines of the original "Exorcist."

Seriously, I don't think an "Evil Dead" crossover with the Mario characters works in any universe. :|

I'd like to give it a shot and find out.

Yeah I have and I owned like 4 copies of it, and own a bootleg copy of Within the Woods, played and beat all the games. Evil Dead isn't a rare source that is hard to find, I'm even looking forward to the remake(though im sure it will be awful) I wouldn't say its like the Exorcist though.

I would say this story will be more Evil Dead 2 more than 1, and Army of Darkness. I wanted to add in the chainsaw but I will be taking that part out, seeing as Luigi doesn't really have use for it. There wont be Mario or Peach involved at all as this is Luigi's Mansion. Although Luigi does cut off Daisys head with the shovel, a la Lindas head being cut off. I know Mario was in LM it but this doesn't need to involve him.

Evil Dead and Luigis Mansion both have the same concept. Its horror, ghosts replace deadites, Luigi is a wimp that can turn heroic, there's a professor (E. Gadd), I can make this work, since I already am. Id say it starts out more lke ED but after that it goes off into more a LM story that way it's not an exact word by word, shot by shot rip off. Like AOD though Luigi will have corny one liners, example Luigi says "Suck this!" And sucks up Daisys ghost head. Like ED there will also be a page from the book that involves Luigi, but not exactly as a hero as it shows his own death. Its gonna be dark and comedy.

So I think you should lighten up and just accept that it can work and not take it to seriously.

It sounds more like an original work than a crossover between the two (widely gapped) genres. I mean, making a cyberpunk Mario movie is one thing-- but making a Mario thing based on an X-rated grindhouse flick is another. I'm not trying to burst your bubble or anything, but I don't think it sounds like a... kosher idea. But if you really think it's a good idea, then keep writing it.

Luigis Mansion is pretty dark itself for being a kids game. Like Luigi hanging himself, they say its a glitch but that to me is not a glitch, as its clearly his body still and a rope is visible above him. It was supposed to even darker but Nintendo had to lighten it up a bit. There's even hints in the game that Luigis actually dead. They did such a clever job making it haunted.

I loved Luigi's Mansion, it remains to this day, one of my all time favorite video-games. Though I don't agree with you on the whole Luigi hanging himself "glitch," (I think it's just a coincidence.) I do agree it was darker in tone and had a very "Resident Evil" theme to it. It was like "Resident Evil" for people of all ages. As far as it being EVIL DEAD "dark?" No, I don't agree. But you're entitled to your opinion.

Loving this panel. Reading the back-and-forth discussion only makes me appreciate the concept all the more. Just really cool stuff. Can't wait to see it come together!

Evil Dead has its share of humor, though, doesn't it? In the later ones especially, there are a few Three Stooges-inspired moments. This could work...just have to find that magic balance between humor and horror. Your sketches indicate an absurd take on the horror elements, and I would emphasize these.

It's like, you know this is a fairly dark thing, but can't stop yourself from chuckling a bit.

So I ran out of paper in the sketchbook I used after finishing the 5th page. So I decided to start inking them, the first page looks amazing. I still have one more panel to finish on it and that page will be done. Once I finish maybe another page inking I'll post the first two pages.

I still need to work on the script though, im working on it as Im drawing the pages to make the process faster. So far it looks like its more images and less talking which to me, is always a good thing.

Thank you, a friend of mine said the art looks 3D. There's still one more page to ink then I'll be back to drawing more pages. 23 pages into the script, which is a lot longer than I wanted it to be so far. I wanting something short but my story seems to go longer than expected.

I doubt it will go that far, I just like Luigi(Ash) and the mansion (the cabin) as the main premises for the story. It would be cool though for Luigi go that far back, but not for now since this has gotten a lot more further than I originally planned. I would love to animate this though and use the comics as storyboards, but I don't see that happening either.

Really? I've been playing the game for a long time and I've never picked up the references.

Other than that, great job. After seeing Evil Dead 2 I easily picked up the refferences and laughed. Hopefully there's a scene where Luigi'll say "groovy"! XD I can't wait to see more!
Isn't this a little feminine?

Yes. I know. It was my ex wife's.

But you wear this stuff?!

Yeah on an occasion we have a date.

I wouldn't say a lot, but there is a boo that tells Luigi to give up and just accept his fait as one of them. Which is coincidently right after the hanging part. I found out also there was supposed to be a boss in the Safari Room who told him he was gonna cut off his head and mount it on his wall. Of course it was taken out being to violent.

Haha thank you, Luigi might say groovy. There really are a lot of tie ins with both of the series I think IMO. I still have to ink one last page and start drawing new ones. I was busy whipping up an add for a movie, and got into redrawing the box art to part 7 of DBZKai, replacing Cell with He-Man.

I would like to make a list of characters though

Luigi in place of Ash
Daisy (dead) replace of Linda
Prof. E. Gad replace of Proffesor Noby
The Gypsy replace of Annie

More characters to come.

I chose the gypsy to replace Annie as she is helpful to Luigi when he finds Marios lost items, but in this story he finds the lost pages and she translates them.

So how far are you into this comic because I have a bit of advice. You see I'd make everything seem random and unbalanced, like maybe change the panel format or add really disgusting detail on a single panel and not on the others. This would give the reader the impresion hat the comic -much like the movie it's parodying- has no rules. But that's how I would do it.

Page 5 is needed to be inked and then I have to start amking new pages. Everythings written in script form so I just follow the script. The next page will have different panel styles I try to think of interesting ways to make different panels but since its the beginning the panels are just regular.
