The CG-work is a bit poorly executed, but I love the costume design and makeup effects. The casting is brilliant and fun.

Three Wizard of Oz movies...Sam Raimi's doing one, they're remaking the original, and this one. Ah why not even things out and somebody pump another Oz movie out.

Well, UE5K, there hasn't been an adaptation so far that's REALLY close to the book. About the only four very important and well-known adaptations I can count offhand are: the 1939 original, The Wiz, Return to Oz, and Tin Man.
Besides that, there's a LOT more of Oz to be covered than just the Emerald City and the Witch's domain. L Frank Baum spun his original story into a whole universe of stuff!

Actually, there had been six adaptations of the Oz books (not necessarily of The Wizard of Oz exclusively) before the Garland classic. Just demonstrates how versatile the stories are as far as being adapted time and again for new generations of children. I would be happy to see it adapted now until the next millenium.
Re: Dorothy and the Witches of Oz
Return to Oz is awesome. It kind of combines the second and third books into one streamlined film. Works pretty well, and it's creepy as hell.
Also, if you're wanting adaptations of the books that are really faithful, check out the comic adaptations Marvel is putting out. I think they're already on the fourth book, Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz.

Let us not forget the SMB movie...apparently that was supposed to be like WoO.

I'm aware of those, Redstar.
Also, I have a DVD at home that I bought at Walmart a couple of years ago called The Wonderful Galaxy of Oz. It's derived from an anime of the same name, and while it veers wildly from the LFB story at times, it's a hoot.
