Movies You're Anticipating

Postby Redstar » Mon Apr 09, 2012 4:44 pm

List and talk about any movies you're looking forward to, but don't yet have enough information to merit their own thread! No post is too small here; whether it's a delay, script rewrite or casting rumor, feel free to talk about it!

I rarely look forward to movies myself, but this year and the next really seem like such a great time to finally re-visit the theaters.

Ender's Game: The long-awaited adaptation of Orson Scott Card's classic science fiction novel. Canceled and resumed at least a dozen times the last few years, we're finally seeing it in production now. Starring Asa Butterfield, Harrison Ford and Ben Kingsley with Andrea Powell (Brooklyn Girl) as Ender's mom!

The Hobbit: It's a shame that Jackson had to return to this world after so long since I really feel that Guillermo or anyone else of his caliber could have been really refreshing. Hopefully his vision and take remains to some extent.

Men in Black 3: This franchise is "Ghostbusters with aliens" in a way that Evolution wasn't. The first movie was an instant classic while the second, while mostly a rehash, still accomplished much of the same fun. I'm looking forward to the time travel plot and practical alien costume/makeup work for the past aliens.

Prometheus: Need I say more? Ridley Scott is back in the genre he dominates most with the film universe that redefined film horror.

Brave: Pixar's first "princess" movie, as well as its first project centering a female protagonist.

Skyfall, HE-Man the remake, Dark Knight Rises, Wreck it Ralph, Spider Man, maybe the Avengers, Toxic Avenger 5, Toxic Avenger remake, the Evil Dead remake, Class of Nuke'em High 4, Father's Day, the Mothers Day remake, and anything else that sounds badass that I can't think of right now.

I hugely enjoy and respect classic comedy, from Our Gang to the Three Stooges. This movie just feels me with dread with the blatant disrespect.

I remember hearing Jim Carrey was gonna be Curly, but he's way to tall. Then I heard Johnny Knoxville was gonna be Moe, which would have been perfect since he would have been perfect for stunts. But I think the cast they got is perfect. They look just like the original stooges.

I really don't agree. The resemblance just isn't there for me. The original casting choices would have made for a much better film.

In topic-related news, Ender's Game has been pushed back eight months. Great.

Wreck it Ralph is still the only I really want to see, even though there are some possible flaws that'll be present. Like spending too much time in the sugar coated world, the videogame characters not having enough screen time, and no Mario stuff like that.

The Evil Dead remake just finished shooting, I'm looking forward to it, even if it ends up being a pile of trash.

I don't know, with Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi as the executive producers, I think we're in good hands. Also, Bruce has a cameo in it, from what I hear.

Call me crazy, but I thought the remake of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" was infinitely better than the original, but that's probably because I've never seen a Wes Craven movie that I liked.

I'm not, I swear! I have absolutely no respect for Wes Craven and I think Jackie Earle Haley was a far better and far more serious Freddy.

But Jackie Earle Haley doesn't any charm and isn't nearly as memorable as Robert England!

But anyway, I'm pretty meh about the Evil Dead Remake, mostly because it'll be like all the recent horror movies, all jumpscares and gore. While Evil Dead had a couple of jumpscares and was filled with plenty of gore it still had atmosphore!

Half of the horror came just from the camera angles and the woods themselves! That one shot where Ash walked into the cellar and the camera just slowly revolved around the set before coming back to him is probably one of the most unnerving bits in the film mostly because you're always thinking something's gonna happen.

Admittedly, Haley was doing the Rorschach voice from "Watchmen" the whole movie, but Freddy isn't supposed to be charming. He's a pedophile serial killer. I'd rather not be lured into liking that kind of character.

Have you read about the story line of the new "Evil Dead" movie? The original was about two guys and three girls going up to a cabin for the weekend for reasons we don't know, but presumably their original intentions were centered around sex and drugs.

In the new one, the characters are going up to the cabin to help a troubled friend detox from her heroin addiction, and each character is going to have their own unique personality and faults that will probably end up being the demise of each of them, one by one.

Granted, I love the original movie, but it was made on a meager budget and shot in a period of a few weeks. There's not much character development in the original and for most of the movie, we think Scotty is going to be the hero until he gets his ass kicked by whatever demons are out in the woods and becomes a Deadite himself and it's up to Ash to finish the job. There's a lot of room for improvement and I think with Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell as the executive producers and the watchful eyes over the new movie it will be fine.

Actually that doesn't sound bad. Though to be honest, if Raimi's not directing then it just won't feel like an Evil Dead movie. Besides I'm one of those fans who wants an Evil Dead 4, much more than an Evil Dead Remake but that's just my opinion.

They should go the Toxic Avenger route. Make a re-make and then make part 4. But to me if they made a new Evil Dead with Bruce it should be Evil Dead 3, because if you look at Army of Darkness in the right perspective, it's almost like a prequal or it's own movie. Since Ash is thrown back in time, and he fights the army, which was prophesied in the book of the dead.

I'm not to sure, but I do believe the new "Ash" is a girl. It kind of make sense though to do it that way this time around.

Plus in the original pitch of Evil Dead "Within the Woods" the main character was a girl (the girl who played Sheryl in the Evil Dead), and Bruce Campbell was the deadite who was brutally decapitated. I haven't seen the short in a while, I have a bootleg of it on VHS somewhere in Ohio burried in all my stuff.

EDIT: Found out yesterday the director of the new Gi Joe is in talks to direct the new Masters of the Universe movie. I totally can't wait for this.

Everyone knows that the new "Evil Dead" isn't going to have an "Ash character" in it-- it's something Bruce Campbell made very specific when he signed on to be the producer. He pretty much owns the character of Ash and he doesn't want to see anyone else play it in any way shape or form.

Aside from the basic similarities (friends going to a haunted cabin in the spooky woods) this is pretty much a new movie-- think along the lines of "The Hills Have Eyes" remake, which was a million times better than its Wes Craven-helmed counterpart from the 70s. The original "Hills Have Eyes" didn't even have an ending! I'm fairly confident that we're in good hands with the new "Evil Dead."

The one with Matthew Brodick? Say what you will, but that's the only 'Godzilla' movie worth watching.

I read that, too! I like the direction that Chu is taking with the GI Joe sequel, which seems to be a vast improvement over the first. Perhaps he can handle He-Man just as well?

There's a difference between a character filling the role of Ash and actually being a rebooted version of Ash.

Yeah, exactly-- what he was really saying though was "Gojira," which is the Japanese name that we redubbed "Godzilla."

But still, I've seen all the old black and white "Godzilla" movies and I didn't care for any of them. Then there was that one called "Godzilla 2000," which wasn't very good, either. Now, anyone who knows me, knows I'm a sucker for movies with subtitles-- I'll sit through a four hour black and white Japanese movie and read it and enjoy it, but when it comes to giant monsters terrorizing Nippon, I'm just bored and I don't know why. That's why I really liked Roland Emmerich's take on the monster.

Hopefully he can pull off a good He-Man movie. I'm just worried he'll try to get Justin Beiber as Adam, and then all his fan girls will go see it just for that purpose only. It'll be a shame. I honestly haven't seen any GI Joe flick (I know there's only one right now) but still, the thought of Beiber being in it erks me. I just hope the pop singer doesn't decide he wants to do acting for it.

I really like that they didn't have someone else being Ash, because as Serum stated, Bruce is the only Ash and will always be him.

A city decimated. Completely destroyed. The camera pans by the wreckage of a train, A distant voice is heard giving a speech about the dangers of atomic weapons from J. Robert Oppenheimer. Dust everywhere. Cars crushed. Holes in skyscrapers.

We then see a giant centipede-like creature with many arms and legs smoldering. (You know what that means? Monster battles!) The city appears dead as a doornail. Then blackness. THE ROAR. As in THE roar. Huge bass drop. Raymond Burr finishes his famous speech. Dust...then an arm... a hand... with claws. Pan up... holy sh**... the fins. The head. Godzilla. As we know him. The real f***ng Godzilla. He roars again.

Fade to GODZILLA!

Nope. This new movie has nothing to do with that awful version of TriStar (their rights expired in 2003). Looks like they give "Big G" the respect he deserves.

The American live-action "Death Note" adaption.

It's in pretty early stages, but, after Dragon Ball Evolution & Avatar: The Last Airbender, I wanna see if they can redeem themselves with this. They say it will be a "Thriller", so, maybe there's some hope. Well, unless if they really get that guy from Highschool Musical to be Light Yagami, then it's all done for.

I've been eagerly anticipating this adaptation as well, but I don't think it'll happen. News on the project is rare, though the major stumbling block appears to be that the current director wants to retain Light's villain protagonist personality and the character of Ryuk while the studio wants to remove both.

I will say that I find Zac Efron to be perfect for the role. :P

He looks for the role, but I don't know if he can pull of the insanity part right. He would either be really good, or really bad. It probably won't happen for a while, but it seems Warner Brothers is pushing for the project to stay alive, so, you never know. I've heard of a Bleach movie in the works too, but I've never been a huge fan of that.

I'm going to see Paul Thomas Andersen's new movie "The Master" when it comes out, it looks pretty good. It's based on L. Ron Hubbard's early days of Scientology.

Just read some awesome news, as a fan of Barbarian stuff, Arnie is coming back as Conan the Barbarian, ditching the remake, and Conan the Destroyer, and making a direct sequel to "The Barbarian." I am glad to see this happen, I can not wait to see this.

Also there was news last week about the new Masters of the Universe movie which John Chu said he grew up with hte franchise, watching the cartoon and owning the toys. So this may be promising. As long as we have a half naked He-Man on screen saying one liners, I'll be happy.

I read this as well. It's frankly astonishing. Arnold has been attached to just about every franchise he made iconic in the '80s/'90s, although none have yet to move forward in any strong capacity. A Barbarian sequel would be particularly interesting, especially if it means he'll get back into his "Mr. Universe" shape.

We definitely are! Been reading just a little bit of the book each night getting ready for the film. It's funny just how much more entertaining it can be to read books out loud--it brings some of the characters and commentary to life. Hopefully the movie can do an even better job :)

I get more excited every time I read about Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the God's. The story sounds good and funny.

The Hobbit... they somehow took a one hundred and twenty page book with an extremely simple story and made three three hour movies out of it. I could read the book in less than three hours, which is a third of the run time of the "trilogy."
What would you do without your big brother?
I'd like to give it a shot and find out.

They used material from the LotR appendixes as well as unpublished notes. Tolkein had planned on releasing a revised edition of The Hobbit that would fit better into the Lord of the Rings universe, but was never able to do so. Peter Jackson's aim with his film adaptation is to do just that.

Still, I agree that it seems a little extreme.
