Wait I thought the Hobbit was a two parter?
Isn't this a little feminine?
Yes. I know. It was my ex wife's.
But you wear this stuff?!
Yeah on an occasion we have a date.

Where have you been?
Around July or so, it was announced that instead of 2 films it would instead be 3. Christmas 2012, Christmas 2013, and Summer 2014.

Well excuse me for not keeping up on certain events!
Anyway, does anyone else think this is a bit much? I mean there's adaption expansion and then there's just padding which I feel could be the case here. Then again I'm not much of a LOTR fan (hell, I like the Ralph Bakshi version

Re: Movies You're Anticipating
Ugh, I just got back from "The Hobbit," it was THREE HOURS LONG, the first of a trilogy of three hour movies and I didn't understand any of it. I kept turning to my brother and asking "Why are they doing this?" And he'd try to explain and I'd nod, then think and ask "right, but why?" I'm never going to a midnight screening again, it is almost four in the damn morning, my preferred bedtime is about six hours ago...
What would you do without your big brother?
I'd like to give it a shot and find out.

Some have liked the pacing while others not so much. I'll just have to find out for myself next weekend, although all this new footage is giving me high hopes for what the fan editing community might do.

I never liked them, I think Randal summed those perfectly in Clerks 2. I saw the second one and fell asleep atleast 5 times.
Re: Movies You're Anticipating
I just got back from seeing The Hobbit for the second time. On opening day, we saw it in vanilla 2D, and today we saw it in the new HFR 3D format. While HFR was an interesting way to see the film, I'm glad I saw it in regular 2D first. HFR gave the film a very clean look and I think it really helped sell the 3D visuals. I'm still not sure if it's the revolution some people are hoping it will be--I much prefer 70mm IMAX as the "best" possible film experience.
As for the Hobbit film itself, I really enjoyed it. While I don't think it feels as "real" as the Lord of the Rings trilogy, it's not exactly a huge detractor. Contrary to what Serum said, I felt like the film was pretty straightforward--especially if you've seen the other LOTR films.

I've heard of a Bleach movie in the works too, but I've never been a huge fan of that.
It would be a great challenge for him. I'm also pushing for Benedict Cucumber--sorry, Cumberbatch as L...or would that be typecasting?

Re: Movies You're Anticipating
Saw The Hobbit this past Thursday and must say it was well worth waiting for! It was definitely a much different tone than The Lord of the Rings, but I feel that Jackson and his team did an excellent job of making a simple treasure-seeking adventure fit into the greater scope of the Middle-Earth mythos. They really utilized the background material well in fleshing out the story. In comparison to the book, it feels much more like a journey of development and focus. It's not just events happening (although they still do and it's sometimes not good for pacing).
I do think a few things could have been cut to make a tighter story, but those scenes are considered classics and unfortunately referenced in the previous film trilogy.

Re: Movies You're Anticipating
I'm glad you enjoyed the film overall.
Which scenes are you referring to? I assume you're talking at least about the scene with the three trolls. I thought it could've been a little shorter, but I really liked it. And I thought the "riddles in the dark" sequence with Gollum was great.

Yeah, I meant the troll scene. Complete waste of time and terrible for the pacing. Still, necessary due to expectation.

I think the only movies I actually even want to see this year are the Evil Dead remake and Star Trek Into Darkness. Other than that, off the top of my head, nothing else looks any good.

No Superman? Not interested in Man of Steel? For shame.
And on the Hobbit front, part 3 has been pushed back from Summer 2014 to December 2014. Purely a financial (and possibly critical) move.

I'm looking forward to it! Seems to be just the right touch on handling Superman; both being true to the character and updating him for a film universe.

I'm only looking forward to Evil Dead. Looks more than promising, and I'm hoping it'll be as memorable as the original. Man of Steel... eh, maybe. I'm not a huge fan of Zach Snyder, so there's that. The next Hobbit is a long way away from now, but that's obviously #1. Star Trek Into Darkness? Bah. Garbage. Just like the last one.

The casting news for First Class 2: Days of Future Past and the fact that Bryan Singer is back in the director's chair has also excited me. I still haven't seen the first First Class, but I've heard generally good things.

I watched Dredd last night with my boyfriend and, while I didn't pay too much attention, I enjoyed it. It was nice seeing an action film with both a female villain and competent female lead. Both Lena Headey and Olivia Thirlby gave memorable performances, although I wouldn't desregard Karl Urban as Dredd either!

Looking forward to the new Godzilla in just about a month. Looks like this one's going to be truer to the original than the 1998 film. Thing is, I kinda liked that movie too, although I admit it was a terrible adaptation. Unlike the Mario movie, which had a limited pool to draw from, Godzilla had decades of great material to act as inspiration and ignored it all. This new one seems to have learned from the mistakes of the past.

Bryan Cranston is really selling this reboot for a lot of people. We're very likely looking at a longrunning franchise, unlike the aborted '90s Emmerich effort.

Well the new DBZ movie Battle of the God's, will be playing right down the road from me at Cinseltown and I have already ordered my tickets. For those interested it's playing in select theaters from August 5-7 and the 9th. Also tonight another theater close by is going to be playing Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. I was only 2 when it came out so this will be a great first time experience of the movie on the big screen to me.

I found another movie that looks good this year!
Birdman stars Michael Keaton playing a washed up comedian who once played an 'iconic superhero' in the 1980s and is trying to get back in showbiz... it looks awesome!

I really wish that was Harvey Birdman, or just the 1960's version of Birdman.

@UE5K: I think that's the character he (Michael Keaton's character) played in the movie within the movie, though I'm not sure. I was never a big fan of the Birdman cartoon from the 60s, I was always a Space Ghost guy.

That would be really cool. I saw a preview for it a few months back I didn't understand it. It should be Birdman.
But I too was also a Space Ghost guy and if they did make a movie of the 1960's version, that would be really awesome.

Well it's mostly been confirmed another new DBZ is to hit theaters in Japan May 2015, once again Toriyama will be writing the script. I am so ready for this, and hopefully this one too will be released in theaters state side as well.

Movies I'm anticipating? Let's see...I think I'll just stick with 2015 for now. Jurassic World, Terminator Genisys, Sam Raimi's Poltergeist remake, the Jumanji remake, Mad Max: Fury Road, Tomorrowland, San Andreas, and Minions. That's just in the Sequel/Remake/Prequel/Spin-off/Rip-off category. Of coarse, I'm lucky if I even get to go see three movies in a year. Last year I actually managed to see a record setting five movies and one of them someone else payed. I saw The Lego Movie, Godzilla, Dawn of The Planet of The Apes, Interstellar, and Big Hero 6. All fantastic movies.

I'm anticipating the Fantastic Four reboot just to see how horrible it's gonna be. Dr Doom a blogger hacker, Human Torch is black, Invisible Woman's adoption story, the gang gets sucked through a vortex to transform, The Thing transforms at will, nobody is in their 30's to mid 40's and abunch of kids in their 20's, Josh Trank's ignorance on set trashing everything. Sounds like it might be this generations SMB movie.

No actually it will just be bad. I take back the comment about it being the new generation of SMB. The fact that F4 is not popular enough as Mario was in it's hay day to be a huge let down at the time. I gurantee 5 out of 100 kids would know who they are.
I guess I could also say I'm really looking forward to the new DBZ movie Revival of "F" more than anything this year.

Re: Movies You're Anticipating
I'm sick of Marvel movies in general. They've felt mass-produced and cookie cut since the end of Hulk 2, excuse me, The Incredible Hulk.
I absolutely hated Thor and Captain America was as pointless as its eponymous character, who is the Aquaman of the Marvel universe. Then The Avengers made me angry to the nth degree because it's about fifteen minutes of action and three hours of bickering secret identities. Then out of nowhere came Guardians of the Galaxy, based on a comic that everyone pretended to know about before the movie's first teaser went viral and now they're doing Ant-Man, who is the Shazam of the Marvel universe.
They feel so plastic and forced, and I'm sad to see that DC's movies, which were doing really well with keeping themselves toned down and more niche, are about to go into with Batfleck Versus Superman and the following Justice League (or whatever they're calling it, now) movies. In the words of Orson Welles, it's just a bunch of "toys fighting with other toys."

How interesting. With over six-hundred movies set to be released this year, and every year, I have a hard time whittling things down to the three or four movies that I can afford to go see in a year.

Maybe I'll go see Mad Max 4, the trailer looked promising but it might also be showing all the good scenes. I've heard rumors of a Sam Raimi helmed remake of Poltergeist coming out this year but have seen no set pictures or on the set stuff of it, so I'm inclined to believe it does not exist. Insidious 3, again, maybe, but only because I thought the second one was a ballsy throwback to late 70s haunted house movies. And maybe Jupiter Ascending, but that one's a big freakin' maybe and only because I adored Cloud Atlas.
