A place for those who "Trust the Fungus"

I've been watching some cult/cheesy imagitive movies from my childhood recently and I wondered why there aren't more fansites.

The examples are the 1994 "Street fighter".
And the orginal "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory".
Both these and works like "The Dark Crystal" and "Labryinth" have had Blue ray editions with tons of extra content( SF maybe not)

What makes SMBarchive so cool is that we do our best to find info and props from the film.
What ever came of wonkas costume or the golden tickets.
Where's the Bison outfit now.
Where are the 1 million BISON DOLLARS

Oh wait their lost " OF COURSE!" Joking aside. These are a few films that I'm sure others could be added to a list,
of films I Wish could be rediscovered and find out how they made and what happened to all the cool props and stuff.

While the Wonka film seems to have a larger following I think Street Fighter could be done some justice.

Street Fighter definitely deserves a fan community - and respect, yes. I feel sick and heartbroken how some people say it's 'so bad it killed Raul Julia', especially as I had a rather nasty blow of my own on the same day as Raul's funeral; also yes there is the further complication of Dennis Hopper having in fact died on a day when Street Fighter aired in my merry homeland of England, and yes one sicko did make a cruel joke about such. Both my mom and I even happen to be internet friends with Jay Tavare (the Vega actor), and he sent me an autographed photo of himself as Vega (turns out mom had given Jay my home address) - and the photo did in fact arrive on Jay's birthday! I cannot help but wonder, did mom do this for me to make me happy in general... or was it also to help cheer me up when we were all worrying for my cat Blinky?

A highly dedicated Vega fan troupe of which I myself am in fact the leader at a gamers' site I frequently visit strongly appreciates the Street Fighter movie (except of course we hate Byron Mann's Ryu for obvious reasons, even more so after I discovered his date of birth is the exact same as Vega's is according to Capcom; and of course we wish Balrog had died a horrible death in this or any other Street Fighter media), so yes this certainly makes us a fan community in ourselves. You'd be happy to know we have linked the Super Mario Bros. Movie Archive on our site, by the way!

So yes I watch Street Fighter every time it airs here in England - and yes it is thus also a 'Damme' big deal for my Vega fan troops, so much we even do such things as change our forum banner 'Damme' accordingly, and Zane (the site owner) and/or other admins update the site on airing days. Jay Tavare himself has happily donated a few pics too (he gave his permission for us to use pics of him as Vega)!

In fact, Street Fighter is to be aired here in England yet again on August 11 so please guys wish me the very best of luck! Plus if you have any Street Fighter movie stuff to donate to my fellow Vega fans and I, then please Email me and/or even get RedStar to post them on my Facebook wall preferably before the aforementioned date. I can't guarantee all of it will be added up but perhaps some will, and maybe the rest will be included in future site updates (whether for airings and/or other special events, or in general)?


Van Damme donated the Bison uniform to Planet Hollywood, dunno what happened to the Bison Dollars though...

I love how films such as these can inspire cult phenomena and spring up entire communities centered around them (Blade Runner and The Wizard of Oz being perhaps the two biggest examples) that help to keep their history alive.

Super Mario Bros. certainly deserved this site for numerous reasons, though I'm honestly surprised that the films you listed as well as many others don't appear to have any dedicated websites. It's really just a matter of people coming together and doing something about it, which doesn't happen for every work.

I think that Return to Oz deserves a bigger fan community than it has.

Even though Troma has a big fanbase, I think that their movies need way more appreciation. The Toxic Avenger, Cannibal! The Musical, Class of Nuke'em High, and SGT Kabukiman are true independent films that need way more attention. If it wasn't for Troma I probably wouldn't even want to make movies. These are true" cult classics".

On that matter, why are they called Cult? Are they labeled as some sort of a cult. I would prefer B-movie. I can't stand when Hollywood makes quote" independent" movies, and yet they have a class of A-list stars. Fox Searchlight, and many others are a joke. They probably have trailers for the actors. A real inde movie would have people sleeping on the floors in hallways, or camping out, or staying in a church to sleep. It sickens me so much knowing Hollywood movies are considered b-movies, or cult classics.

I think it does too. I LOVE Return to Oz. It has this really great dark yet comedic tone that I think captures the spirit of the books much, MUCH better than the 1939 film.

If I were to host a cult community for any film other than Super Mario Bros. it would have to be Return to Oz. It is such an amazingly moody and atmospheric film with brilliant costume/makeup direction to match. It's a shame how people so often overlook or neglect its existence simply because it's not what one would expect in a sequel to the '39 original.

Also, I just love Fairuza Balk. She is such a striking beauty that it's a wonder we haven't seen her in more films.

Ah, nice to see all this love on here for Return To Oz, which is one of my all-time favorite films. Not only is it a beautiful/sad/somber/melancholy film, but I find it so bold in the way it makes mental illness a theme. Plus the musical score by David Shire is one of the best ever composed.

I actually made a web-based documentary about the making of Return To Oz. Now before you all criticize this for the bad production value and HORRIBLE audio quality, please understand that I made this several years ago when video equipment was at a lower standard, and I also did it as a labor of love. Anyone in NYC going to the midnight screening of RTO this weekend at The IFC Center?

I LOVE RETURN TO OZ. Years ago I read the book it's based on, the marvelous land of OZ.
The ending is screwed up, the MALE protag is apprently secretly princess OZAMA.
As a child this was a WTF moment and kind of freaked me out.
A charecter who was male throughout the entire story turned into a girl other than magic.

Ok also the story had tones of gender equality as well.
Oz city had been taken over by momby and female soldiers so men did the house work and women fought.

Yeah the book was strange. Good but strange.

Also I need to find this as a child I saw a ANIMATED version of marvelous land of oz. The protag. feel out of the sky meets jack pumpkin head in a pumpkin patch house, also i remeber a scene of tick-tock in a cave. It's a color animated film that was on a actuly film projecter that my gradeschool had. If anyone knows anything about this TELL ME. It's been aluding me for years.
