Shooting at Colorado Premiere of The Dark Knight Rises

Postby Redstar » Sat Jul 21, 2012 2:52 am

As many of you may already know, there was a mass shooting incident at the midnight premiere of The Dark Knight Rises at a theater in Colorado. A man, now confirmed to be 24-year-old graduate student James Eagan Holmes, entered the theater 20 minutes into the showing wearing a bulletproof vest, goggles/a gas mask and a riot helmet. After throwing several smoke grenades he opened fire into the crowd.

In the end, 12 were killed while as many as 58 were sent to the hospital. This is a tragic time for many people. So many will have their lives forever changed by the horror of experiencing this or through the loss of family and friends. There's not much more that can be said. Just keep your thoughts and prayers out there. Take a moment to gain perspective on your life and those of others. These things happen and we just need to remember that life takes its course.

President Obama and director Christopher Nolan have since made statements.

Steps up
Puts on mask
I am vengence, I am the night, I am Batman! "lightning"
I felt really depressed about this. It boggles my mind why soemone would do this for no reason other then insanity.
Was the criminal captured?
Was this some deranged attempt to make a real life Batman?
This is one of the few times are crime has made no sense to me.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. Why are the biggest shootings in Colorado? I'd really like to see South Park tackle this subject since the show takes place in Colorado.

(I'm in Colorado, Denver actually.)

From what I have heard, the shooter wanted to bring back the Joker and decided to kill people. I believe he even had a bomb in his apartment set to blow. His entire plan was to kill as many as possible.

We have had so many major shootings in Colorado, it makes me sad to think so much violence can happen in my beautiful state. Hopefully, this will deter none of you from seeing the movie since all my friends say it was amazing. Even the guys ended up crying.

My question is why are they still calling James Holmes a suspect? It's pretty obvious that he did it all.
Isn't this a little feminine?

Yes. I know. It was my ex wife's.

But you wear this stuff?!

Yeah on an occasion we have a date.

I feel that this is necessary and appropriate to bring up that there have been three major shootings since the Dark Knight Rises midnight premiere:

First, a former army soldier and white supremacist killed six at a Sikh temple. He was killed himself by officers.

Soon after, a woman shot at six people on a cruise line after an argument. No one was killed.

Finally, just a few days ago, a shooter killed three at Texas A&M.

It seems obvious that these deranged people have been emboldened by the Dark Knight Rises shooting. They've seen that it can be done and that they'll get attention for it. It's truly a tragedy that this has become a weekly thing. Almost worse are the lawmakers and 'armchair politicians' arguing that gun control/restriction is still unnecessary.

This only proves that were aren't doing everything we can to keep firearms out of the hands of people who would misuse them. Things needs to change before more people get hurt.
