That sucks, but hopefully he has enough money from acting he can get it treated, if there are treatments for it. I wish him the best.

We wish him and his family all the best and hope for proper treatment in this time of miracles. Remember him for the man he was as he always will be that man. This changes nothing about who he is or what he has to offer in life. Please also drop any idea towards interviewing him on the film. It's over. Let's respect his privacy.

I agree. It's the least we can do for the man who gave us Mario on the silver screen.

It's not like we had a strong chance anyway. Oh well, let's hope he's at least able to enjoy his retirement.

Though he has this disease , I am glad he is still looking forward to the future.

I will copy & paste my dedication statement to him I made on my website just now.

I've sadly learned today that Bob Hoskins - my biggest idol in the film business - has had to retire from acting because it was discovered he had Parkinson's Disease.
I am very deeply saddened about this news and best wishes go out to him and his family and I hope that he gets the best treatment and care.
Bob Hoskins is the star for my favorite movie - Super Mario Bros - a childhood favorite that I still enjoy watching today. This is my all time favorite movie.
I love the Super Mario Bros Movie and that was the film I grew up with. I remember the first time i watched it the entire film blew me away. I also remember finding it in the Video Shop by accident after seeing a film based on Super Mario Bros, and I remember shouting "MUM! THEY MADE A SUPER MARIO BROS MOVIE!" in the store. I couldn't believe how mindcloggingly amazing it was when I was watching it when I was around oh...say....5 for the first time?
Ever since then it has been my favorite movie, along with my favorite movie soundtrack.
To me, Nothing can beat the Super Mario Bros movie as being my favorite movie of all time.
NOTHING.
Though I really enjoy other movies too, the Super Mario Bros movie is #1 on my favorites list.
The news of him actually RETIRING from acting has also made me deeply saddened.
He was such a marvelous actor and I bet he was just as dissapointed as I was when he found out about the news. It is sad to see people who are really wonderful and nice have these sad diseases that completley interrupt your goals in life. However it is good how he is still looking forward to the future of retirement.
Bob, You will always be a wonderful man and a great idol to me. I always look up at you as a hero. Actor, and just a wonderful person in general.

I wish Bob a very happy retirement, and all the best for the future.

As a very obvious means of wishing Bob a happy retirement, I have asked mom if we can watch Super Mario Bros. some time next week (I can't watch it on Saturday August 11 or even Monday August 20 because on those two dates Street Fighter's gonna be on) - and she has decided we can watch it tonight!

And believe it or not, a few months ago my old schoolmate Wayne (with whom I used to be in a relationship) said he actually spoke online with Bob - and he's convinced it was the real deal, because he says he asked a question for which only Bob would know the answer!

I once read an article where Bob Hoskins was visiting a shopping mall and a young kid started following him around all over the place, finally Bob turned to the kid and said "Is everything okay, son? Can I buy you an Orange Julius or something?" The kid didn't say anything and the boy's father walked up to him and said "He's just in awe because you've been to the two places he's always wanted to go: Toon Town and Neverland." That always touched me.

Just to let y'all know mom and I did indeed watch Super Mario Bros. this evening. Once again I wish Bob a happy retirement, I thought of him throughout the whole movie - even as I swayed along with the Goombas in the elevator

It's a real shame that he has to retire now. I always loved and respected him as an actor, even if he despised his role as Mario. But it's definitely for the better that he retires from acting at this point. I think I'll watch every movie he appeared in to honor his career. Watching Long Good Friday right now :D

The Good Long Friday is an amazing film! Hoskins is so great in that. Watch Mona Lisa next :)

He would have won the Oscar for "Mona Lisa" if Paul Newman hadn't been dying at the time...

Interesting side note: the Genesis song "In Too Deep," from Invisible Touch, is the main theme-song for Mona Lisa.

Also, it was (one of) the last movies put out by George Harrison's Handmade Films.
