'Bad' Movies That You Still Enjoy

This topic should go without saying: what are some movies that you enjoy despite popular or critical opinion considering them to be 'bad'? More often than not a movie that many people dislike really isn't that bad or has some artistic merits. You can enjoy anything if you have the right taste for it.

I didn't exactly love Howard the Duck, though I did find it to be technically capable. I reviewed it HERE.

Bad movies as in legimitley bad or just critically panned bad?

Well for the former my pick is The Room. It may be ungodly bad but at least you're not bored with it! Maybe the reason it's bad is because the story was so boring that Tommy Wiseau decided to have everything be fake and obvious just to entertain us slightly.

My pick for the latter would have to be SuperHero Movie. Yeah it's predictable but it has a couple of laughs that still get me time after time again.

DuckTales--The Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp

Cheesy as all-get-out, but it's worth it just for Christopher Lloyd's performance as Merlock, the Jafar-prototype.

I love the DuckTales movie! It's funny about you saying that Merlock is a "Jafar-prototype" as I've seen it said that the Genie is a Williams-Genie-prototype.

Battlefield Earth, for sure. I saw the movie as a kid and found it cool. From there I read the book, which is obviously much better and quite a bit longer, though just as needlessly transparent. It's a good B-flick with A-actors, though.

How could anyone like DBE? that movie is god AWFUL. they could have done it right, but no, they messed it up. It was a black day for DB fans, and some never even saw it knowing how bad it would be.

I will say that Piccolo looked decent, but beyond that the film has no virtues. It was just written completely wrong. I believe there's actually the original, faithful, version of the script floating around online, though.

I had the first draft and it was absolutly no difference. oolong was killed off being a soul sucker, goku was in school. it was still aweul. unlike the mario movie that hd a faithful first draft, dragonball had nothing. the writer though did leave a message about the film and scrit i can uload if anyones interested on seeing it.

I'm very glad this never happened. There was going to be 3 movies, and i'm glad the movie failed. i think he low budget trailer coming out that is fan made might even be better(even though vegeta looks taller than goku, which is a huge no no, since vegeta is tiny). Even the very low budget chinese movie DB The magic begins, is way better than evolution. if anyone wants to see the letter from ben ramsey let me know.

That's the thing, there is no beautiful first draft. i read the first draft and it was stlil awful.

While I love Labyrinth, I know many dislike it. However, it hasn't stopped the film from getting a huge fan-base. I'm a fan of the Return to Labyrinth manga series too.

That crummy TV movie remake of 'The Shining' from 1997.

The acting was reminscient of a English Anime dub, the effects were blech, the horror was so underwhelming, & the script was so poorly written.

But yet, it may be the only decent remake/TV movie I have seen. It was enjoyable for it's cheesiness.

That one's a guilty pleasure for me, as I read the book after seeing the 1980 Stanley Kubrick movie, then watched the 1997 version and compared them. I enjoyed both, but the 1980 version is far superior.

The remake, despite being much closer to the book still took too many liberties with the original story. And furthermore, the absence of the "Lloyd" character (the bartender in the book and 1980 movie) made it feel empty.

The book was okay to me. It overexplained everything & there wasn't too much of a sense of isolation to it. It was enjoyable nonetheless. I loved the vagueness & atmosphere to the 1980 movie, it's more of a symbolic piece-of-art than a movie. The scenes of Llyod & Jack are some of my favorite movie moments. So casual, yet eerie.

I didn't care for the book, that much. I thought it was about six hundred pages too long. Stephen King tends to over-emphasize everything with unnecessarily vivid descriptions in place of metaphors. The only book of his I can really get through is "Pet Sematary," which I thought was genuinely scary, unlike the movie (although I did like Fred Gwynn as Jud).

And as far as "The Shining" movie from 1980 goes, I always thought that the Lloyd character in the movie was implied to be the personification of Satan, as Jack says he'd "sell his soul for a glass of beer" right before Lloyd appears and provides Jack with some booze.

I've always enjoyed The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The casting is good and the story a good reversal of the original novels. It certainly could have been much better executed, but I liked it. Solid film with true sequel potential.

As much as I love LXG, I think we'll be seeing a sequel to "Super Mario Bros." before LXG2 comes out. Why? Two words: Alan Moore.

Disney's Hercules. Does it bowlderize the original myths? Yes. Is it a little too cliche? Yes. And was it hijacked by Jesus? Oh, absolutely. But you know what? It's still a favorite of mine!

Let's face it, even if it does strain from the myth at times, the reason was because the movie would have been R rated if they had stuck to the original myths. While I do believe the film still could have worked as a family film if they did follow the myth more closely (albiet some parts would have to be implied and others would still have to be changed), I still enjoy the final product.

Plus for all you mythology buffs if you pay attention to all of the details in the film you'll realize that the writers did in fact do the re-search, they just felt that they couldn't do the main story as it was told.

Plus, even though some of the characters can be bland, cliche, and just annoying, characters like Phil and Hades are definitley entertaining with Hades being one of my favorite characterizations of the character (even if he is more synonomus with the devil in this version) though to be fair, I haven't seen or read many other versions besides the Percy Jackson one so maybe there are better versions out there.

While I know this movie actually has a modertate fan base, it's still not seen as one of Disney's best.

I found it more Hijacked by Superman, but I still liked it. I was more than a little bit shocked, when it first came out, to learn that the characters were designed by Gerald Scarfe, the cartoonist whose cover art for The Wall gave me nightmares for years.

And don't get me wrong: the fight against the Hydra was epic.

Well to be fair I don't really count that trope since Superman and other heroes were inspired from Greek Mythology. Hell, the stories of Perseus and Heracles were indeed the original the Superhero Comics albeit more sexual and violent.

Aslo I should be a bit more clear. While Hercules is still a favorite of mine, there are lots of moments that felt a little forced, and some that I couldn't look at since it was so forced and cliche like some bits with the muses. However I think the pros definitely outweigh the cons in this case. I liked the music and lots of the scenes were just great if not worthy of the definition of Epic!

My top three would have to be the beginning (gospel truth and the title drop sequence), the Battle with the Hydra, the training sequence with Phil (One last Hope) and the Zero to Hero musical number. Why:

the Beginning: It's a clever song and I especially like the title drop sequence. For those of you who haven't seen it, it's basically a closing in shot of Mount Olympus while the muses yell "Aah" musically, then it cuts to the clouds where the Title is shown and then it shows olympus itself, it might not sound epic on text but watch the scene for yourself.

the Training sequence (One Last Hope): First of all, Danny Devito sings, that alone is pretty awesome, but the song itself is catchy, and the final moments is truly great.

the Hydra Battle: I'm kind of cheating on this one, since I only truly like it because of the ending. Basically the Hydra has hercules pinned to a wall and then Hercules hits the wall sending an avalanche of rocks to the Hydra, the last thing of the Hydra that's seen is it's claw, of course everyone thinks Hercules died. But then the claw moves, and when it breaks open, Hercules is revealed with no harm done to him except for his clothes. Everyone cheers, triumphant music plays, and the once rainy sky turns a bright blue. Truly epic.

Zero to Hero: Another epic moment that's good from beginning to ending, with the song getting faster and faster, all the while making you want to pump your fist and say "hell yeah!"

I can't stand Kevin Smith at all but yet, if I watch his movies I get a chuckle out of them. He's just a one hit movie man with nothing else good.

True, but doesn't the movie's structure itself owe quite a bit to the first Christopher Reeve Superman movie? Should've made that a bit clearer.

I was walking around a record store yesterday and I found a used copy of "Freddy Got Fingered" for three dollars, so naturally I had to buy it. It's one of my all-time favorites, as it really appeals to the immature fifth grader in all of us.
