I'm sure most of you are up to date with the events that are happening in Boston this past week and now. The two suspects responsible for the Boston Marathon Bombing are Chechen brothers. The older brother was shot dead last night/early this morning by the police, but he had killed an MIT Police Officer beforehand. The younger brother is still at large. You can read about it here:

Boston is in complete lock down as they try to find the suspect. I live about an hour and a half away from the city. However, the younger brother suspect is also a registered student at UMass Dartmouth, the college in my area that I graduated from! They evacuated the campus and have it in lock down, too. I have a lot of friends there, and have been checking my facebook newsfeed to make sure that they are all safe. Anyway, I just wanted to check in and make sure you all were aware. Please keep Boston in your thoughts. Thanks guys :)

UPDATE: And here are the helicopters that just landed at my college, UMass Dartmouth!

UPDATE: Good news. They got him. Suspect #2 is alive and in custody. This madness is finally over!

Did you know anyone involved in the marathon? As such a popular local event it seems like everyone knew someone who was involved in some way.

Amazing that just two brothers could do something like this. By all accounts they were regular American frat boys, weed and all, somehow gripped by Islamist extremism.

Thanks for posting this. I had hoped we could cover it to some extent. This and last year have seen so many national tragedies. It's hard to keep up. I just hope things can get better.

Fortunately, I did not know anyone who was in the marathon. I contacted all my friends and relatives in the Boston area to make sure they were ok, and luckily they were.

On Friday, when Suspect #2 was on the run, the authorities found out that he was a registered student at UMass Dartmouth, my alma mater where my girlfriend and many of my friends still attend. My girlfriend was on campus that morning for a few minutes or so until she was told to go home and that the campus would be closed for the day. Students there were tweeting/facebooking about it with updates all day to keep people informed (myself included. It wasn't long until they began evacuating the campus.

One of my friends on campus had actually hung out with Suspect #2 before the bombings, crazy enough. The FBI also raided New Bedford, the city which neighbors Dartmouth and my hometown, and had taken the suspect's girlfriend into custody. Luckily all of the madness has come to an end. They re-opened the campus today, and classes will be resuming tomorrow on Monday. But yeah, crazy weekend for Massachusetts.

They were Chechynan (Russian), although they could still be considered "regular American frat boys."
