It's happening folks, it's really happening; the "Poltergeist" trailer is dropping tomorrow! For those of you who can't wait, here is the official teaser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tp0l_VVTRs0 Sam Rockwell is in this movie, so even if it ends up terrible, Mr. Rockwell might still be better than anything in the original. The Beast wants someone to play with. I say it's about time we got more "Poltergeist." Tragically, many people who haven't seen the original will think this is an "Insidious" ripoff, so let's do our part to educate the masses! Can director Sam Raimi out do Steven Spielberg? it remains to be seen.
Didn't manage to see the second one before it was pulled, but I'm a big fan of the originals (particularly the third one-- I'm alone on that, I know) and all I can say is "Huh." Not like as in "huh?" but like "Huh," that's... I can't put my finger on it. It doesn't seem to need to exist, but... I mean it doesn't look... bad, but I only saw 45 seconds of the redo of the clown scene. I'm not sure what to think, yet.

Actually, I quite liked the third "Poltergeist" film; I was afraid of mirrors and puddles for months after I first saw it.
As for remakes and sequels, I happen to be particularly fond if them. I love seeing different interpretations of my favorite stories. I have seen four versions of H. G. Wells' "The Time Machine" and I loved all four of them for different reasons. Here's how I see it; if the majority of the current movie going audience hasn't seen it, then it is time for a remake, or a sequel/prequel, depending on the circumstances. People talk about sequels and remakes ruining the originals, but they don't change a single frame of what came before. Even if the "Poltergeist" remake is horrendous, and sweeps the Razzies, the original will still be there exactly as it ever was. With more than 900 hundred movies released each year, prequels, sequels, remakes, and reboots don't even make up 5% of them; there is plenty of room for more.

Full trailer's back up. And, again, all I can say is "huh."

YouTube tags? I've never seen that before...I must be blind. Thank you for posting that.
As for your reaction to the trailer, I completely understand; I was the same way with "Frozen." I thought that "Frozen" just wanted to be "Tangled" in the worst way.

I still say it looks better than the original. I remember renting that and Tron at the same time on Netflix back in 2008 and I forgot to return them. But I just did not like either movie. Very dissapointed with Poultergiest, it wasn't scary. IT was a family film more than anything. It was like the haunted mansion at Disney World.

While I do like TRON, I understand the dislike people have for it. I have the DVD and the special features are actually more interesting than the movie. It was amazing what they went through and what they had to invent just to make the movie. They spent thousands of hours trying to make hand drawn animation look computer generated, which is the reverse if modern film making. I especially liked the video about how computer generated images were invented. They were working on a project for the military, developing a program that would simulate how radiation passes through and deflects off of different materials. One day they realized that they could use the same technology to simulate how light bounces off of solid objects. Soon after the very first computer generated image was born. The TRON special features also has the very first computer animated short ever created.

Well... I really like how they seem to be combining the old with the new. The Evil clown and the "boy eating tree" are back, for one. Plus, the poltergeist is behaving the way a modern audience expects it to, like tossing people in the air and creating strange deformed copies of loved ones. The things that are returning seem to be getting a fresh twist, such as the investigators revealing the burial ground early in the film instead of the landlord revealing it near the end; to me, this suggest that we are getting a new twist near the end. I like how Sam Rockwell is looking a lot more rugged and distressed than the father ever did in the original. Like I said before, I love experiencing different interpretations of my favorite stories, and this looks like it's shaping up to be a memorable experience.
