Haha! My mistake... We were considering watching Darkman, which was directed by Raimi, before settling on Spawn.

Hahaha I see how you could have mistakened the two. But speaking of Sam Raimi. We watched a movie called The Intruder, which stars Sam and Ted Raimi. Directed by Scott Spiegel. It's about workers at a grocery store working over hours and you guessed it, there's a killer slaughtering the emplyers. It's a really fun movie, very violent. I think it's funny cause the box to this says STARRING BRUCE CAMPBELL and he's in it for a total of two minutes AT THE END.

"You've been violated, girly man!"

I remember that very vividly. Leguizamo was certainly the best part of Spawn, and while I don't remember a lot of specifics about the film I remember really enjoying his performance. I'll have to watch it again sometime to see what I think of it now.

I also ended up watching The Amazing Spider-Man on its Monday night midnight screening when it first opened. I must say--I was quite underwhelmed, all things considered. My main beef with the film is that it was marketed as "the untold story" and while they set up a lot of interesting things, the filmmakers didn't deliver on them at all and nothing really got resolved. It felt like they purposefully did it to save it for a future film, but some articles have speculated that quite a bit was removed from the film for this reason.

Spawn has a lot to offer for the era in which it was filmed, though after what's been done since its failings are only all the more obvious.

They seem to have cut as many as three separate subplots to the film, leaving behind only a very basic retelling of the traditional origin story. It's really amazing just how well it came together considering.

Hopefully they explore those cut themes in the sequels.

Did you watch thne unrated version? I haven't seen it but I know there's one floating around somewhere. I haven't seen it so I don't know if it has more story points to it, or just a 30 second clip ofba garbage bag floating and they call it the unrated directors cut.

I don't think there will ever be a sequel. They have been talking about it since the first one came out. I remember in the early 2k's a sequel was close to film but something went amiss and filming never happened.

Yes "The Godfather" I must say this i really a A Class Movie. Rather than concentrating on everything that is great about The Godfather, a much easier way for me to judge its quality is on what is bad about it. Almost every film has something that I don't like about it, but I can honestly say that I wouldn't change anything about The Godfather. There is nothing weak about it and nothing that stands out as bad. That's why it gets ten out of ten.

I just saw Scrooged the other day, and it's now one of my favorite adaptions of A Christmas Carol...EVER! I just love Scrooged so much, it hurts! However, the tragedy is that this movie only got a 6.8 on IDMB and has 64% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. WTF?! This movie at least deserves an 8.8 or even 8.1 rating! I mean come ON!

I mean yeah, it's not a very family friendly movie but it does have a heart, it's very funny, and it comes recommended on my list. It's certainly darker than your typical adaption of A Christmas Carol but if you can get by that you have a very solid movie here.

I went to a see "The Amazing Spider-Man," but I walked out on it about 20 minutes into the movie. First of all, it was "Twilight" with Spider-Man, second, when he gets his powers, he's in the basketball court at the high school and he's playing like a pro, which is really pissing me off because I knew what was coming.

I turned to a girl next to me and said "If he does a Space Jam slam-dunk and shatters the hoop, I'm leaving." She looked at me, puzzled and said "What do you mean?" I said "Just watch." Then sure enough, Robert Pattinson or whatever limey was pretending to be an American superhero jumps twenty feet across the court and slam dunks the hoop in Space Jam fashion, shattering the glass.

I stood up and proclaimed: "DONE." And walked out and waited for my brother to finish watching the movie. He came out of the theater and didn't notice that I'd left about two hours earlier and said "Wow, that movie was AWESOME! What'd you think?" I said "I don't know, I walked out after he did a Space Jam." Then everyone gets all indignant on me because I walked out of a 300 million dollar summer blockbuster and calls me a snob. But I have standards, dammit.

Um, to answer the question. No. I haven't seen any good movies in theaters, lately.

I can't believe no one, not even Serum said they watched the SMBMOVIE on this thread. I thought that was pretty obvious.

That's because we've all seen it. Saying that we watched "Super Mario Bros." in this thread would be like saying "I went to the bathroom at point during the day." I watch "Super Mario Bros." every day, at least twice.

...does that make me unhealthy?

EDIT: Let me offer a rebuttal, I just watched a very good movie I hadn't seen in awhile-- Ralph Bakshi's "American Pop." It's the story of four generations of musicians between the early 1900s and the early 1980s. Considering it was made by the same guy who gave us "Fritz the Cat" (for those of you too young to know what that movie is, it's the first X-rated animated movie) and "Cool World," it's undeniably Bakshi's defining work. The scene between Tony and Pete on the park bench really pulled my heartstrings. Anyway, yeah, there. I saw a good movie.
