Widespread destruction from Japan earthquake, tsunamis
As many of you may have heard, a category 8.9 earthquake recently struck off the coast of Japan, resulting in enormous tsunami damage all over the country. The earthquake was previously categorized as a 7.9 then a 8.8. However, it soon became apparent that it was much more powerful than initially thought.
While Japan is a nation specifically designed for earthquake/tsunami prevention and response, many cities have been shut down and a "state of emergency" was declared by the government. The death toll numbers as high as 1,000, while thousands more are injured and hundreds remain unaccounted for. Additionally, several nuclear power plants are threatened with possible meltdowns, inducing nuclear fallout over the entire country.
I feel sick to my stomach since I know people currently in Japan. While they are okay, many others are not. Everyone, please follow news on this and do what you can to contribute to aiding Japan.
