Re: 10/10/10 Fan Art Update
Basil-Ovelby's "Do the Mario"... Wow. What can I say? We've had more problems with this piece screwing up our updates than anything else... Every hotlink just has to link to it and who can blame them? It's a great piece featuring nearly every character in the film. You typically don't see bit-characters like Toad, Iggy, or Spike get that kind of attention. And that's why this one shines.
McGriffin's "This 'Aint No Game" really captures the Max Headroom kind of atmosphere Rocky and Annabel attempted to bring to the setting. Mario and Luigi just look so stoic and the Goombas are undeniably a threat. One of my favorite pieces, hands-down.
Finally, all of muffin-wrangler's pieces are so great but I'll only comment on one. Of the three, I choose her "Koopa Rework" piece, which is a really cool reconciliation of the movie's version of Koopa and the game's that would have totally worked in the movie as an even more reptilian character. My only complaint is that I wish the spikes and tail were outlined a little darker as it's hard to really connect them to the actual body.
Also, one of the earlier scripts described a scene at the climax of the movie where Koopa was "dressed for battle." A ceremonial spiked "battle armor" would have fit well into the movie considering the visual themes of the setting, so this design is spot-on.

Yes, I like that one too, especially the Goomba redesign. Very mean-o and almost Ork-ey in a way. However, I have to say that her "human" Koopa looks...overly concerned for some reason. What could possibly be worrying him? That, and her "Mario Kart" Koopa looked like he was just wearing a set of Bowser-themed jim-jams (with slippers to match!). Then again, I can appreciate occasional frivolity.
