I think this was touched on here on these forums before, but w/e I'm restating. Mario's design and character seemed to be developing at a steady pace between his creation in 1981 and up through Super Mario World in 1990. What with the whole backstory of being a pair of brothers from Brooklyn who entered a magical kingdom to rescue a princess and overthrow a dictator. Then The movie came along and flopped terribly. The game universe responded by pretending that the whole thing never happened.

Brooklyn? Where's that? Mario and Luigi come from the Mushroom Kingdom. Last names? I don't think so, that would imply some semblance of depth.
FYI, the quality of the games certainly didnt suffer. Yoshi's Island was fantastic and Mario 64 was ground-breaking and so on.

I like it, although I think your message would come across more effectively if you angled it towards Western/American media presentation of the character. There was certainly a push towards "realism" up until the film, which didn't result in so much a reversion to a more iconographic character as a redefinition.

After your comic pages I should have known to expect more great artwork from you. This piece really captures the tone of Mario's development well. You should be applauded for your insight.

Love this concept. It seems all of your Mario-themed pieces are very original.
