First of all, thanks for sharing your project with us! It's always an absolute pleasure to see fans come together and appreciate the film. :D

I'm really glad you had the idea for this comic. As fans, we can't help but imagine what could have been in the unproduced sequel, but far too rarely can I really say a concept illustrates something true to the film's tone. You've accomplished just that. You've managed to hook me with a surreal and intriguing story that feels like it could be close to what the writers would have done themselves.

Not only that, but the comic has a unique art style and a villain creepy enough to potentially rival even Koopa. You've made Wart very Baron Harkonnen from Dune, which I love.

I really hope you continue this project. I feel like Wart's plan has more twists the Mario Bros. have yet to fully understand. :P

Wow, looks pretty good. You've kind of got a Frank Miller art style going on.

This is cool I like the story so far the arts not bad either. I wouldn't compare it Frank Miller IMO that's a slap in the face because I think his art is terrible, hard to follow, and very over hyped. But i hope yoi continue this, months away when I have internet again I hope to se more.

Well I will say that it's an interesting take on the source material. I like the art style. It's a perfect combination of both the games and movie. I can't wait for more.

For some reason my computer is going into conniptions every time I try to load one of the images, but from what I can see this looks really cool. I like the gritty artstyle, and the idea of some sort of corruption working its way through the Mushroom Kingdom is simultaneously intriguing and chilling.

The unanimous sentiment so far seems to be 'can't wait to see more,' and I heartily agree. Welcome to the SMBM fandom! :D

I love this idea! It is a good way to continue the legacy of the film, but in a different way. I also think the more classic looking Mario will help people to distinguish it as "Mario" over Bob Hoskins' character.

Am I the only one who thinks the artwork is in Ralph Steadman's style?

Definitely more Steadman than Miller, although it's a style all its own. :)

That is true, since Steadman's work is considerably more f****d up than this, I'd say it's a "Steadman Lite".

Also, for a bit of constructive criticism, maybe it's just me, but I found myself a little confused. Tp me the pacing was a little off. I hope later chapters build on these introduced concepts because right now, they all seem like an attempt to explain what happened with no further intention on expanding any except for Wart that is.

Wow, it does kind of look like Steadman, now that you mention it. I didn't even think of that. Although Steadman's work was still a little less coherent, that probably came from working with Hunter Thompson so much.

Very fine artwork in here. Your rougher styling is quite inspiring because I'm a cartoonist myself and I tend to get slower and slower and slower because I want everything just a certain way. What you have here looks a lot more rapid (although I'm not sure how much time you took on it) and it carries me around with a spectacular rush. You also have a Mario that looks a lot like the N64 one which is pretty cool.

It seems to have the scenery of Dinohatten and the Movie, while using the figure look of the video games. Very nice and impressive.

Sincerest regards from the Stranger

Great Queen Nehellenia! This comic is darker and edgier...but I like it.

Yes! I feel somenthing like that too. I'm obsessed with details and perfections, that's the big cause of not finished any comic so far. So I decided to pull this whole idea out of my head as soon has possible drawing pretty fast.

Guys to be honest I had no idea who Steadman was until you mention it! I had to google it and...yeah.

That's exactly the idea! Well guys very soon i'll upload the True ending (Yes, I missed a couple of pages to see if there will be people who actually read it) for the Stage 02 and the Stage 03. So stay tuned to my http://francisco-k.deviantart.com/gallery and... I probably make a FB page for those who have Facebook.

Don't forget to believe on the Frog's faith. See ya!

Don't worry man, a lot of us haven't really finished our fan works (besides Serum) so you're not alone. I'm also interested in these "Extra pages" you plan to post, I always felt that the whole thing was rushed so maybe these pages will explain some stuff. I can't wait! :D

I liked the comic so much, Francisco, that I decided to share it via our Facebook and Twitter accounts. The Facebook post received 144 views, so combined with the forums you definitely have an audience now!

This project has the potential to be really special. I hope you decide to finish it with a bang! :)

Really cool. I like the artwork! Birdo's design is also interesting. I'd like to see how you handle the other SMB2 bosses, like Tryclyde and Mouser.

Interesting direction. I like how well you pace the story. It really keeps things moving in a way that makes me feel like anything could happen.

I would also have to agree that Birdo's design is interesting, but it's not exactly what I would have imagined. May I ask why you chose to make her more feminine than, say, spikey and punk like the other Dinohattan denizens?

All this talk of Birdo and no mention of the Shy Guy? That's a solid design right there! Very cybernetic/cyberpunk. The broken dialogue and clockwork key suggest the Shy Guy "priests" might be brainwashed by Wart, so if Mario & Luigi can find a way to free them we might just find ourselves an army to take him down for good!

I really like the idea of the "Frog Faith," especially how you've hinted towards Wart's plan of evangelizing it to other universes. The film suggested the possibility of a multiverse, so setting the sequel in just the dinosaur universe would, for me, really limit what sort of story could be told. I'm looking forward to seeing how these other universes react to Wart's dimensional crusade. It could only lead to more trouble. :)

I also want to comment on the Shy Guy design. Masterful work there, Francisco. Cyberpunk is the way to go. I only wish Birdo had been more like that as well.

You know man, I gotta say congrats to you. It's only been a couple of days and already you have more than 20 comments on this page. That's pretty impressive. I gotta say I wasn't expecting Birdo to appear this early in the story. And again you give her a very creepy design that still manages to be faithful to the original character while also being your own thing.

That's a talent right there.

Quick Question: What characters do you want to see in The Mario World next stages?

Francisco_k wrote:Quick Question: What characters do you want to see in The Mario World next stages?

Well, you've already brought back fan-favorites Iggy & Spike, so thinking of another character to return is a little hard.

I would have to say Big Bertha, for sure! :)

Are you kidding? Who else but Big Bertha!

I would love to see either Lena or Bertha return, as the two are some great female characters, but I can't think of any way Lena could possibly make a come-back after her demise in the film. lol

Looks like there's a consensus for Bertha! I wouldn't choose anyone else, although Lena would be great if it were possible.

Maybe Koopa himself in a follow-up story once you wrap up this Wart arc? A trilogy would be awesome!

Ooh. The return of Koopa would be awesome! It has to be handled right, though, and I still want to see Wart's threat resolved first.

I love how you've drawn Iggy and Spike, although their appearance is pretty abrupt. I think a new page between the second and third could help the pacing a little by allowing the gang to come to grips with defeating Birdo before the Koopalings show up.

I agree. The pacing is rather abrupt, so adding a new page would really help. It is a short chapter, after all.

Whoa, LOVING Bowser and Wario's design! Bowser I think is especially creepy, I wonder though will this guy be a totally different character or will he be King Bowser from the film?

Wario and Bowser look really great! I'm always trepiditious about Wario's presence in the film universe, but you've designed Wario in such a way that I'm excited to see what you will do with him.

I'm curious as well about Bowser. Is he a new form of Koopa, the King (Daisy's father) or a new character entirely?
