My Fan Edition DVD of the Super Mario Bros movie

Postby ultimateemail5000 » Wed Mar 11, 2009 11:16 am

Hey guys, so I was watching SMB on my ps3 last year when I saw that the people with widescreen TVs get screwed over when viewing this movie. They cropped the movie in 16x9, but had it presented in a 4x3 picture. This meant that the picture itself was really small and the rest of the TV had a huge black box around it. So a couple weeks ago, I ripped the movie, re-cropped it in true 16x9, did some tweaking with contrast and brightness, and saved it in 1280*720. I believe thats HD. But thanks also to Phlibbit's youtube videos (please dont get pissed at me, I kept your name, and website on them, I'll even send you a copy if you want, that's to Phlibbit btw) and put together a DVD, including extra's, Phlibbits behind the scenes, making Yoshi move, and the music video, which I edited out of the behind the scenes, and made into it's own bonus feature.

Unfortunatly when the final DVD was done using Pinnacle the movie slowed down a bit when I played it back on my PS3, so I had to make a semi decent one without the menus I customly made, using windows own DVD maker. I played it yesterday and there was no slowing down what so ever. I took my original SMB movie DVD case and put the insert into a 2 DVD holder, removed the proof of purchase sticker label and slapped it on top, so now my copy is half real half fake. Here are some screen caps comparisons of my version and the studio version, plus my original Pinnacle DVD menu's.

The official release, notice how its picture is in 16x9 but they were lazy and made the DVD itself 4x3

So there you have it. I am not selling this, or distributing it in any way so sorry I will not be giving out copies of this, except for Phlibbit since his video's were used to help make bonus videos. Other then that this is completely for my own personal viewing.

LOL that is awesome. I've tried to fix that stupid problem myself before; I got it mostly fixed. But I totally would love a copy of that. "Special Bootleg Edition"...priceless. Maybe once I get EVERYTHING on the site there will be even more stuff and it'd be cool to make an "Ultimate Special Bootleg Edition". LOL

Since the old Street Fighter movie is out on blu-ray now, I can only hope that SMB will make it eventually...

Really nice job on that DVD! 8)

And yeah it would be awesome to eventually compile all of the cool concept art, scripts, etc from the site onto a special edition DVD. Or maybe they'll eventually do a Blu-Ray version of the movie right...with all the special features...

Eventually I hope someday SMB will make it to BRD as well. I was thinking of getting a blu-ray burner one day and burning the movie with my custom Pinnacle DVD menus. But I'm just waiting on that when the discs and drivers lower in price.

If there is more footage out there, like deleted scenes, that would be awesome to make some kind of extended edition, which I would always have the time, to edit together. I still have the 35mm first reel, who knows if there is anything different on there, then the final release.

Anyway I'll send you a PM about the DVD later. I gotta go to work now.

Yeah, that would be cool. But the problem there is that we don't actually have ANY actual deleted scenes footage (in a complete form). I'd love just go get my hands on any of it. And like I've said before, I keep hearing that the theatrical release had a few different scenes in it. I really can't believe that even now, how much of a mystery there really is about a lot of aspects about the SMB movie.

I hate to bump my old thread, but all the talk of a fan cut of the movie makes me want to finish my "Bootleg Edition." It's going to be right side to the SMB Anime DVD. Now with the addition of the animated deleted scene. I ask those interested in this, should I havee the animated scene in the movie itseelf, or just as a bonus feature? If I knew how I'd make it both but I only know basics.

Bonus feature. It's fun, and done the best of your capabilities, but it just doesn't flow as well as it could. I don't think I'd be accepting of any such added scene unless it was basically animated "live-action". Besides, doesn't hurt to have more bonus features on the list.
