Your Mario jumpsuit looks like tyhe same kind I used to make my Mario costume. Pretty badass man. I was hoping you'd have this done before halloween and would have pics up of the costume. Did you finish the boots yet?

The OD green coveralls are ex military. Got them from an online army surplus store. The red coveralls were purchased from a online farming/outdoor store if I remember correctly. I needed blue long sleeve shirts with cuffs, so two matching dress shirts would do. I replaced the white buttons with blue ones and took off the sleeves to put them on the coveralls
updates: Luigi suit is DONE! Mario suit is pending...

I'm prolly going to make another luigi suit as I'm going to need a XL and not a L. So I might have a extra smb luigi suit to work with after all is said and done.
And no updates on the boots yet. I went ahead and worked on the uniforms as the boots are giving me some trouble. So I went ahead and finished my SMB Luigi costume instead. I'll post some beauty shots my completed Luigi suit tomorrow.
Until next update...

I'm actually warming up to the idea of doing something like that with my costumes. Once they are all completed of course. Maybe not a full fledged fan film but maybe like a little skit or something. I play a horrible Luigi...better actors would need to be found and the truck. I would need a beat up panel truck...
gears are turning...

Hey, not all creative minds produce in the same way... You're clearly the costumes director, and perhaps special effects. Now we just need the script, actors, and a decent cameraman and we're set!
So are the blue pockets parallel, or do they only look crooked because of the angle of the shots and how your pose is crinkling the suit?

Yeah the pockets are alittle crooked, but that is compounded by the fact that my bulging mass barely fits in that suit. Heh heh. I have since made a larger SMB Luigi suit for myself.

Eh. Not everything can be perfect. (Though the perfectionist in me screams otherwise

)
The fully-put-together ensemble more than makes up for that, but what really stands out to me is the fabric itself. Quality materials.

Very nice! Looks better than my Mario jumpsuit. To bad the hat's not the same match as the suit but it's stiil sweet. I was thinking of buying that hat actually, but one is good enough for me. Don't take offense but you look like you'd be a better Mario than Luigi, I actually said that out loud when I saw the Luigi pics.

I actually think he looks better in the Luigi suit... It's probably because the color scheme is duller, so is more "realistic". The Mario suit is made up of primary colors, so it's really bright and a bit cartoonish.

Yeah, I play a pretty fat Luigi...or a semi fat Mario...haha.
I'm putting a hold on the thowmp boots and flamethrower gun. I'm kinda SMBed out at the moment...wanna start back on my 73 olds project. I've been working on my SMB stuff almost everyday now for a few months. It's good to take a break and come back to the project with a fresh mind. The boots have been racking my mind...haha.
Just to throw an idea out there...
Is there a real interest in SMB replica props?
I'm only talking out loud for the moment, but from the stuff that I have done. The Bob-ombs, Devo Gun, the suits...
Would anyone be intersted in a run of props/costumes? Like the ones in this thread?

noooooo

great job on everything man. Man the boots must really be frustrating. Which parts proving to be tricky? The bottom plate?
There is an interest in the props for me. I was trying my best to be movie Luigi this Halloween but my suit fell through when I tried to dye an old junk Dickies suit I had and it didn't take the dye very well. It doesn't look terrible in the pic but the color really in person wasn't a strong match. My attempt was to try and make a costume with what I had.

I need to just get one like you. You said it was just military olive drab mechanics coveralls? What about the hat? Was that a matching hat you found by luck? I was holding off on even looking into getting ski boots until I saw what you could do...
You're definitely venturing into uncharted awesome territory with everything. Great work all around. I'd probably be more inclined to give stuff a go myself rather than have someone make it I think though! I like doing stuff like that lol

Pretty much everything. I'm working at it the wrong way. What would be the "best" way to go about the boots would be to cast them in a mold and sculpt them that way. The way I'm doing it now, it's like putting a jig saw puzzle together and none of the pieces fit. And I'm kinda a stickler for movie "accuracy" and all that, so it's eating at me that it's not turning out the way I want it too. And I'm still on the one boot...
I was trying my best to be movie Luigi this Halloween but my suit fell through when I tried to dye an old junk Dickies suit I had and it didn't take the dye very well.
I've worked with dyes before on these SMB jumpsuits (and the Ghostbusters jumpsuits) and my experience with dyes are not that great. Whenever I try to dye a suit/coveralls, they never turn out the color that I want them to be. The process is usually hit or miss and after 2 or 3 tries with a suit, they turn to mud. So I don't dye any of my suits. I try to find the closest match IRL, or in the extreme case, find the material and make it yourself.
I need to just get one like you. You said it was just military olive drab mechanics coveralls? What about the hat? Was that a matching hat you found by luck?
Yeah, I think they are military OD mechanics coveralls. Start hitting up some army surplus stores and while you are there, pick up some 40mm grenade shells for the bullet bills.

The hat was a real problem. I've bought several hats online and offline and they are never the color shown advertised. The color is always off. I can't buy a regular OD green hat without it saying marines or something, and even then the color still wouldn't match. As you can see, my hats are "alittle" off color but I'm fine with them and I"m not going to risk dying them and turning them to mud.
I was holding off on even looking into getting ski boots until I saw what you could do...
Don't hold your breath...
You're definitely venturing into uncharted awesome territory with everything. Great work all around. I'd probably be more inclined to give stuff a go myself rather than have someone make it I think though!
To date, I think there have only been 2-3 people building SMB related props, and they all post in this thread.

I can't find any fan created SMB costumes anywhere let alone fan replica props. ANd I like building the props myself, but I'll tell you, if someone out there could make some movie accurate thwompers...I'd buy them in a heartbeat! haha...save me the trouble and pain!

I think all of use could do with a pair of Thwomp Stompers.

If a pair based off the second development-design, I'd certainly buy them.
With all these props you're making, we really need to put together a fan sequel, or at least a short. Special effects could be mapped in using the cartoon, games, or even the movie. It would take some time and work, but I think if we all pooled our talents it'd be a fun project to get the forum going in some direction.

It's going to a SMB movie fan in Hawaii.
I'm prolly going to list a few more SMB costume items before christmass. Clearing my workbench of stuff and finishing up some other props/projects.
I plan to dive into the Thwomp shoes again after christmass. If all else fails at least I'll have ONE boot done. And then I'll maybe start up my flamethrower again.

Working on some new guns.
This time I'm making both a "righty" and "lefty" version. Also ditched the boots, gave up on them. They're history.
Almost finished with the new devos...a prop which I can make, at least, halfway decent.

The only full scale anything that I would try to tackle would be an SMB Police car. They're as cool as the Spinners from Blade Runner.
Already working on one movie car replica as it is, maybe after I'm done with that?

I wonder if the jumpsuits would still look awesome if they retained the trademark "M" and "L" logos on the cap. I read on wiki that the producers were going to do that.

ehh somehow I have a hard time believing that. Or seems more with the realism of them finding the outfits. I can't believe I've read on some places, some people even criticize the jumpsuits saying "they wore overalls FAIL"

Ill agree with you on that, i honestly prefer the jumpsuits better than the trademark overalls. Besides if you look closely at the jumpsuits they do kinda resemble the game costumes.

Actually, I think I read somewhere that the directors didn't even want them to have overalls or the jumpsuits at all-thought they looked stupid or didn't fit or something. Luckily, someone called BS on it. The scene where they find the suits is most certainly one of the film's best scenes.

I like the movie version outfit more so then the game outfits. With the SMB movie coveralls they actually look like "plumbers". With the red shirt and blue overalls, not so much. You go into any auto shop or service shop the mechanics are wearing either uniform shirts and work pants or they got coveralls.
Newish update:

90% done with Marios Devo Gun. Gonna get started on Luigi's Devo Gun now since I have the last remaining super scope.
I don't know if the super scope is some super popular vintage peripheral or that there are hundreds of people out there making devo guns...but it took me almost a solid month of bidding to get my last gun. I don't know what the deal is. The Super Scopes usually go for around 20-25 dollars. All the ones I were hitting were souring past 40 and 50. Times that by 2 (by four if you make 2) and you catch my drift.
Im lucky I got the ones now.

Finally got done with my lefty devo gun.
I'm now 100% done with all my SMB related props.
I'm not making the Thwompers. I'm afraid that they have me beat, I can't get them to look right and require more skills then I have at this point. The flamethrower plans have been trashed as well.
Now, since I have all my SMB props made...time to start planning my fan film...

Oh no, I'm totally serious. I'm going to make a SMB fan film.
It's not going to happen overnight, just look at how long I have been working on these SMB props and costumes, but I have every intention to make a SMB fan film.
I have a few other non-SMB projects I have to wrap up first, but I'm totally diving in the "fan film groove" after I finish them.
I cannot guarantee anything at this point, nor give out production dates or anything like that. But I'll be sure to keep this site updated when new stuff happens.
Stay tuned.
