I totally love the logo--although I don't know the particulars of your film, I'd say you definitely picked the logo that best represents the style and tone of your film.
However--please, please, please, for the love of God--fix the vertical stretching on the main "Super Mario Bros." logo. It's driving me nuts.

A combination of ideas between shay42 and myself.
I really liked the "classic" look of the movie truck. With the script font and everything. But thought that was too much "old school" for a "new school" revamp of the truck. Mario has a cell phone in the movie so I really wanted a modern take on the logo. The movie's "bold" logo really seemed to fit the bill, and is synonymous with the 1993 movie (in which my movie is based off of, not the games or anything like that). But I still used the old style "faucet" design in my logo (like in the original truck) but tweaked it. In the end, I believe this was the best way to go about showcasing the logo.
I thank everyone who summitted designs, they were all good and gave me ideas in the long run.
I have all the SFX truck footage finished in my movie. Hopefully by next week I can do some preliminary SFX work for the mold and fungus in my movie.
Until next update.
Very different from what we started with but really works.
I'm happy to have helped. Looking forward to seeing more!

Were you planning on doing some Boo-busting with that Super-Scope?

Just to show you all what the in movie fungus looks like...

So far so good.

Didn't turn out as bad as you seemed to think it would. Could have been better, but I think it works for what you're trying to do with it.

Another update:

If there is one thing I really didn't like about the original movie, it was the underpowered Devo Guns. They fired a weak stream of energy that took several seconds to do any damage. And Koopa was standing still, I can't imagine trying to shoot a fast, small target with those things.
And my movie changes that.
MY Devo Guns are not only
more powerful then the original movie guns, they are
semi automatics. Each burst really packs a punch and leaves a burning crater. Much more modern and much more dangerous then the original guns.
And you will see the difference in my movie and their immediate effect on objects.
Until next update.

...but can they charge up for a larger, more powerful shot like in Smash?

I never quite liked the devo guns at all. They were simply too
easy. They were never present in the early scripts, having been written into only the final script. It's hard to ascertain what their plot-relevance is since the early scripts never placed much bearing on the de-evolution technology at all. The Goombas were mere background fixtures while the devo scene was a means to an end; that end being Koopa's de-evolution climax.
Still, I'm curious how they'll play out in your movie. By altering their capabilities you've given them much more room to operate in the story. It's almost like you've written the story around them, rather than them simply being an afterthought like they were in the film. I like that and hope it delivers.

LBD_Nytetrayn wrote:...but can they charge up for a larger, more powerful shot like in Smash?

Yeah, that is how I envisioned my guns working. Each Devo Gun has two triggers, one on each handle. By pushing either button once, you get one burst of energy. By rapidly pushing either triggers you get the semi auto/full auto firing mode. By holding in BOTH triggers for a few seconds you can charge up a larger shot. Release them to fire the supercharged burst. Hold the triggers down for too long and you will take burn damage.
My Devo gun is, more or less, like the m16 with the m203 grenade attachment:

With the select fire and grenade shot features.
Which makes my gun better then the movie version.

Too bad you can't afford enough to make "toys" such as a slide and other things. With a much bigger budget, you'd be able to do some real fun things with this stuff.

Wait, I don't get it. A short Mario film is going to be part of a bigger movie... that isn't about Mario? How exactly are you going to pull that off?
(Btw, it looks awesome! I'm just a little confused.)

You'll just have to wait and see...
On that note.
It's done.
All the color corrections, editing, SFXs, sound editing have all been done for the Mushroom Madness short.
All I have to do now on the mario segment is music/soundtrack.
It's funny, but I'm nearing the 1 year anniversary mark for shooting this movie. I'm almost finished with the entire movie. Hopefully by the first of 2012 I'll be finished. Everything looks really good so far.
I have put the last of my SMB props on ebay. Thats all that is left from the Mushroom Madness short.

I believe he said that he'd be mostly finished by January, so we don't have much longer!
As for the "Hero of Time" Zelda fan film... Nintendo shut that down because they had the audacity to premiere it venues for profit. I don't believe marioblaster will make the same mistake, though I wouldn't deny the cool publicity we might get from such a fan film. xD

My God, you really colored inside the lines on this project. Forgive me if I didn't see it written in one of the earlier posts, but what's your budget for this fan film?

Hey guys,
Sorry for the lateness of my reply, been really busy on my end.
As for the budget for the Mario scene, I'd make a rough guess in the $2k-$3k range. It been so long I can't remember, haha. Most of the budget went to the costumes. I wanted to make them super accurate and the most expensive item was the heavy duty leather tool belts. It was $200 each for the belts...nothing but the best quality for my film, haha.
As for an update on the film, the projected release date has been pushed back 3-4 months. Due to me moving to a new town and starting a new job.
I'm still working on the overall film when I can. I'll be sure to update when I have new information as it has been going slow while I adjust to my new surroundings.
This movie really has it all and I can't wait to show the finished project.

Haha, I took the least expensive route, I went to halloween stores and bought props, hobby lobby with set pieces, internet for hats, and the rest was stuff from regular stores.
My movie is a loose adaptation to the original 1991 script + My own story/backstory. Can't wait to see yours though.

Just a quick question on equipment. What types of set lighting are you using? Are you using Rotoscope lighting, or LED set lighting with a halogen filter? Or is it more like a traditional lighting gun?
Just curious, the project looks good so far

It's great to read this! You've been one of our veteran members for years now, so it's a shame that you haven't been able to frequent the community as much as you once were. At least we can be proud knowing that you're doing what you love and giving the movie a good name.

If there is one thing I truly regret about this project...it's the time taken to make it. 2 years is too long for such a project like this. In retrospect I prolly should have postponed shooting until I was better prepared. Stick to a budget, hire a dictated cast and crew, and shoot for 5-6 months and stop. No more 2 year production cycles for me, EVER.
I mean...some cast and crew have got married and had kids during the production cycle of this movie. That's when you know you're taking too long...

But I'm glad of the people and places I have met during the course of this movie...I can't wait to show everyone here in a few months what I've been working on for so long.

I know it's kind of a bummer that it's taken so long for you to get to this point, but I'm sure you learned a lot on the way!
I'm super excited to see the finished product! Can't wait!
