Hey guys, I've been asked upon request to post some of my sequel conceptual posters I have made within the last few years and I figured I'd make a new topic. Now, I know some of the directorial choices may be a bit...well...over ambitious. But, it's Super Mario Bros.!
Anyways, how I made these concepts were based upon not so much reality, but moreso pure creativity and what I would have liked to see in later films if the franchise succeeded. Also, please bare in mind that as the years have gone progressed, so has my photoshop and design skill. I will also make a seperate thread on the soundtrack concepts for the films I made, as well. But, first, the posters.
Super Mario Bros. II:Main Cast:Mario - Bob Hoskins
Luigi - John Leguizamo
Wart - Johnny Depp
Daisy - Samantha Mathis

King Toadstool (Gets Killed)- Lance Henrikson
Super Mario Bros.: The Lost LevelMain Cast:Mario - Bob Hoskins
Luigi - John Leguizamo

These are great concepts, Winger. While your casting choices are questionable, I could see them working rather well. There's no questioning Depp and Black's acting abilities, so they could fill those roles well. (I'd be especially curious to see mid-'90s Depp in such a role)
My favorite posters are III: The Ultimate Level and IV: The Lost Level. III has a fanciful logo you'd expect from a film of the game contrasted by a frightening "live-action" gorilla while IV accomplishes a lot through simple color and design. It has an almost "Ghostbusters" feel to it.
These are all great, so I'm glad you were willing to return to post them!

Actually, III is simply just III. The Ultimate Level was kind of a failed attempt at a decent tagline. LOL
But, otherwise, thank you for the compliments. These took many man hours over the years and I plan on continuing the series as far as my imagination carries me.

I actually like that as a tagline. Really, the movies (if they had been continued) would only need to be sequentially numbered, at least until the fourth one (Super Mario Bros. 4: Super Mario World being the first subtitled Mario game). However, it would be clever to have taglines slyly referencing the films' counterpart games.
I hope to see you do more of these concepts, though I think exploring more for Part II in particular would be of the most interest to us here.

Thanks! Part Two will have some different ideas and characters introduced. Especially since Cackletta was the primary villain with Fawful as her apprentice in Part One. In Part One, she is defeated and evaporated by the power of the "stars". In Part Two, Fawful becomes the villain we all know and love. From that point he threatens to gather a rag tag group together to destroy the Mushroom Kingdom and find a way to Mario and Luigi's world through the portal. All with the power of the "stars".

I actually meant the first sequel when I said "Part II," as that's really where our curiosity as the fans lie. I'd love to see you visually explore your casting choices. It'd be interesting to see how you could present Depp as Wart, for example.
I was still curious about "Part II" in the sense of how the plot of Take To The Stars (Part V) would be directed, so thanks for detailing it anyhow!

Well, you know, it's interesting you mention that. Because, I've been considering going back and re-making my SMBII poster. Just because of the quality and how much more my ideas had evolved since I created that in '07. I could definitely try and do something with a visual of Depp as Wart.

Awesome posters. I also liked that Take To The Stars had different cast members, either signaling a prequel, a reboot, or maybe because the actors were to old to reprise their characters again.
I'm also interested in the plot or picth of any of these concepts. If of course you ha ve one behind them. Which I understand if oyu don't but I would glad if you did.
I mean come on having cast Jonny Depp as Wart? How can I NOT be interested in this concept?

I actually do have plot/storylines behind each poster, as well as an explaination into the cast change for SMB:TTTS. I can post all of that later on tonight. I'll be gone for a little bit, I'm hitting the flicks. LOL

That was what I aimed for. I loved the original film so much, I wanted to make "sequels". Ideas I had that could have been plausible future projects involved within the Mario realm. And I'm not stopping yet.

Take to the Stars has a Part Two. Then, from that point I might expand even further. Who knows what ideas I come up with, though. Only time will tell. But, I've been thinking about doing something a little more interesting than these "sequels". I've actually been considering make sequel concepts to the first movie actually based off chronilogical reality. What I mean is, I could make sequel posters that reflect the years in which these films could have actually been released. Using actors/actresses that would have been popular during the mid to late 90s. Featrung artists on the soundtracks that would have been popular then. And, the franchise could be a trilogy with differences in the storylines.

My favorite one is the "take to the stars"
But, if Spielberg choose to direct a Mario movie he'll choose John Williams instead of Silvestri to do the score.

That is true. I think when I made that I was under the impression that Silvestri did the score for the first film, he could do the second. But, I think John Williams probably would have done a more epic job.

I always wondered :"what if Wiliams an Silvestri work toghether in a score?

"
Anyway,I have a question: Do the Marios got a special power in the sequels? y'know if they can jump, fly, throw fireballs...?

Yes, they would. But, they would need something to make those powers possible.

Well, I have begun work on my next "sequel" concept and it will be titled, "Super Mario Bros. - Take to the Stars: Part Two". Or in short, SMB Stars II. And to give you all sort of a hint where it's going (if you can get it) I am posting a teaser.

Wow, thanks! It was an idea that definitely took a lot of time of thought behind it. And considering I was just trying to remember what I came up with through short story, I think it worked.

Yes, I am. I've just been extremely busy lately. However, instead of going into an extremely long post, I'm going to shorten the synopsis'. I can post number 3 tomorrow after work. I also have a Take to the Stars: Part Two coming soon. I'll probably release it very soon.

It would be cool for someone to make a comic series using the sequel concepts that WildWinger made up.

Here is my most recent "sequel" concept. Enjoy!

This "film" takes place after the events of SMB V - Take to the Stars. Long ago, our world and the other dimensions the Mario brothers have travelled to were once one world. There was also a medallion called the Chaos Heart which emitted a powerful source for both good and evil. The only way it could be summoned was by two books. The Dark Prognosticus (evil) and Light Prognosticus (good) were the keys to the Chaos Heart's power. When the medallion was in use it conjured up a dark mass called the Void. An evil spirit known as Dimentio controlled the Chaos Heart and brought down evil upon the people with a mission to destroy the world. But, Dimentio was defeated and the Dark Prognosticus was buried somewhere on Earth, never to be seen again. Until one day, the book was discovered in a ruins by archeologists unsure of it's origins or purpose. One of them reads a passage in the book and summons the Chaos Heart. Bleck, a minion of Dimentio's recovers the book and puts the wheels in motion to bring back Dimentio.
The Mario brothers, along with Daisy and Toadstool sense that danger is upon the Mushroom Kingdom and their world. They seek help from Professor Gadd to find the Light Prognosticus and control the Chaos Heart to fight against Bleck and his plan to bring back Dimentio and summon the Void. Driving Bleck's fury and hatred is his memories of his long lost love, Timpani. She disappeared some time ago from a curse placed upon her. Ever since, Bleck has had a dark heart and seeks revenge of the world.
It is up to Mario, Luigi, and friends to stop Bleck and Dimentio's evil scheme and save not just the Mushroom Kingdom, but the universe as they know it.
This concept is in memory of Michael Gough.
Cast:
Mario.....Jack Black
Luigi.....Zach Braff
Daisy.....Elisha Cuthbert
Bleck.....Rhys Ifans
Princess Toadstool.....Emma Stone
Dimentio.....Jackson Rathbone
Timpani.....Anna Kendrick
Toad (voice).....Aziz Ansari
Blumiere.....Thomas McDonell
Professor E. Gadd.....Michael Gough

This project has been something I've been working on since about 2007. While my ideas are admittedly radical, these posters are what I would love to see from a rejuvenated SMB film series.

I like the glittery art and concept, but the use of the same logo (Mario saluting and Luigi giving the thumbs up) is a little tiresome. I saw a really good one awhile back, I think you might have made it, actually, which was a picture of an 8-bit mushroom that was emblazoned in steel, sort of like the steel and iron of the movie.
Also, I really prefer either numbers after the title in sequels or better yet, a sort of "Batman" thing, where the sequel could be called "The Super Mario Bros. Return" or "Super Mario Bros. Forever" or something, but ultimately, it's your project and you can do whatever you like with it. You're obviously very talented at PhotoShop, which is a good thing. But yeah, keep it up.

Thanks for your comments. I actually agree with the use of the SMB emblem getting old. But, it is something I use as a link to the original film to symbolize it is a continuation and not a reboot/re-imagining. And I did make the steel pipe with the 8-bit mushroom poster. It was a teaser for my reboot project.
As far as the way in which I named each "film" was really influenced by the Transformers trilogy. I admire those films a lot and I wanted to give the SMB posters that same sort of feel.

Ok, so recently I had a revelation. I know that in the past I have created "sequel" posters. But, they were only sequel posters to "films" I would have liked to seen made. Now, this is a series a posters to sequels we COULD have seen. First the teasers, then the first final.
Super Mario Bros. 2 (1995) - Teaser

Super Mario Bros. 2 (1995) - Final

Super Mario Bros. 3 (1998) - Teaser
