Hey guys, remember when I had a Mario Fan movie project in the making? Yeah, I was in over my head however I've decided to go back and revisit a rough draft of mine. It was called The Legend of the Mario Bros, it was sort of an origin story. Well I decided to take this draft and elaborate on it, however this isn't the only draft I'm working on.
You see a couple days ago I watched a review of a Bugs Life and it talked about the rivalry it had with Antz. Basically while A Bugs Life had nice colors, family friendly characters and all that, Antz had darker colors, was filled with more adult jokes and more adult dialogue, and was pretty much a Woody Allen movie in a cgi animated movie's clothing (not that surprising considering who the main star was). So the rivalry was basically about which company was going to have the better cgi movie about Ants, the light-hearted family friendly one, or the darker Woody Allen movie in disguise one.
And that basically inspired me to do what I'm doing here. Writing two versions of the same concept (read: A Mario movie that's relatively close to the games) but having them both be very different. The Legend of the Mario Brothers draft will be more of a lighthearted action-adventure movie with a PG rating. It'll have some frightful moments but it'll mostly be good for a family watch.
The other written draft/script/whatever however will be much darker and more cynical, like say Brazil and will include very Monty Python-esque humor. This one will be named Super Mario Land and will of course be rated PG-13 or even R if I'm cruel enough. For those of you who want more knowledge of this one let me say this. There is a happy ending to both versions but the Super Mario Land one will happen after a very dark set of events.
Just wanted to let you guys know and be sure to check out both of the rough out lies that I have planned. Other than that see you soon.
