just heard earlier, I guess he had gotten sick and passed away not too long ago. Famous wrestler better known to most of us probably as Mario from the Super Mario Bros Super Show as well as the voice of Mario in the cartoon on the same show .

This is seriously really upsetting, wow. They could have taken any celebrity they wanted, but it just had to be Captain Lou huh? That really sucks. My thoughts go out to his family and friends. I grew up watching the guy everyday, he was/truly is THE REAL Mario. You know what? I'm gonna wear black socks today in honor of him.

Aw, you beat me to it. Here's another link with just a tad more info:

Captain Lou was awesome. I wholeheartedly agree that he's the most prominent real/game Mario to me. His live-action character from the SMBSS was hilarious, and his incredibly underrated voice acting in the SMBSS was extremely good. Captured what I think the spirit of Mario should be exactly. We should all "Do the Mario" today in his honor. :(

Wow, I didn't expect that, of the five people to portray Mario, I never expected him to go first...

Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime, Transformers) was the first incarnation of Mario, from 1983 to 1985 for "Saturday Supercade."
"Captain" Lou Albano was the second incarnation, between 1989 and 1990, for 'The Super Mario Brothers Super Show."
Walker Boone was the third incarnation, from 1990 to 1992, on 'The Super Mario Bros 3 Show' and 'The Super Mario World Show.'
Bob Hoskins, of course, was the fourth incarnation in the film-adaptation, in 1993.
Charles Martinet is the fifth and current incarnation of Mario, who started voicing our favorite plumber in 1994.

This is truly sad news, my thoughts and prayers go out to the Albano Family and the World Wrestling Federation.
What would you do without your big brother?
I'd like to give it a shot and find out.

That's truly a bummer. I wanted to meet him someday but now I can't! This sucks.
Isn't this a little feminine?

Yes. I know. It was my ex wife's.

But you wear this stuff?!

Yeah on an occasion we have a date.

My favorite sketch of him in Mario would have to be the one where Captain Lou went missing, and he wrote a note that said I left for good, (SPOILER) at the end the note should have said " I left for good fried chicken!" If only that would happen with Lou Albano's soul, he just comes back alive and he's like, I left for good fried chicken!

Also because of this untimely death, I put at the end of my credits for the anime dub, RIP Captain Lou Albano, truly you were the real Mario.

I should have posted this the other day, but the next day after Lou Albano's tragic death, I had texted my dad telling him Lou Albano died, and he's like you got a package here at our house, and I'm like "I didn't order anything" I ask him to open it and tlel me what it is, he said it was a Mario and Luigi beanie. End of story, Best BUy reward zone users supposibly got this hat when they used thier card when buying the game, and that's where the hat came from. Still, it's all very strange.

The Goonies music vid is pretty funny to. It don'thave Mario, but it has Captain Lou wearing blue overalls with a semi red shirt, which is KIND OF like Mario.

So, you can call it close right?

Creeeeeeeepyyyyyy. I get stuff like that happening to me all the time--strange coincidences, I mean.

I'm sad about his death, but he lived a good long life, I'm sure. (I was born a bit too late for TSMBSS, so I have no fond memories of it.)

RIP Captain Lou!

Actually, the Super Mario Bros. Super Show was in fact how I first heard of Super Mario (back then, my parents wouldn't let me own any games systems other than my very old BBC Micro :( ). I do have some of the DVDs and videos... in fact I snapped up one of the videos three weeks before we lost Dennis Hopper...
"Somewhere my love, there will be songs to sing... although the snow covers the hope of Spring..."
Sergeant Simon: Sir, the Goombas are dancing again...
King Koopa: DEAL WITH IT!!
