The Official Tim Curry Appreciation Thread!

Postby Serum » Tue Apr 05, 2011 12:00 pm

Tim Curry is hands down the best actor to ever come out of Great Britain.

He's known best for his role as Doctor Frank-N-Furter (A Scientist) in Richard O'Brien's "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," but over the last forty years, he's been so much more than a sweet transvestite. He's been Long John Silver (Muppet Treasure Island), the crazed Catholic Chaplain in "The Three Musketeers" and has voiced countless characters in television shows and video-games for both children and adults. Truly, this man has brought joy into the world and I see fit to make a thread dedicated solely to Tim Curry and his awesomeness.

If I didn't like Dennis Hopper so much, I would go back in time and cast Tim Curry as King Koopa in the Super Mario Brothers movie!

If you want to, pick up the Junior Novelization audiobook of Despicable Me, 'cause he's reading it.

One thing I'll say, he made a fantastic King Arthur in Monty Python's Spam-A-Lot.

I missed "Spam-A-Lot," but I just watched a movie yesterday called "The Last Unicorn," which really should have had Tim Curry in it. In fact, if I'd been the one producing that flick, I would have had Tim Curry play every character. The Unicorn Princess, the Prince, the King, the Peasant Woman, the Traveling Circus Master and her servants, the Mage and the singing butterfly: ALL TIM CURRY. But instead we got Mia Farrow, Jeff Bridges and Christopher Lee, which is good enough, I guess. But come on, Tim Curry's the man. He was even in that godawful made for TV "Addams Family Reunion" as Gomez Addams, and he was the only thing that made it worth watching.

PS: The British version of Spamalot featured Peter Davison as King Arthur.

I loved, loved, LOVED Tim Curry in Clue, Home Alone 2, and IT! He is just so hilarious in those roles! The producers of remaking IT better damn well THINK of having Tim Curry reprise his role as Pennywise.
Isn't this a little feminine?

Yes. I know. It was my ex wife's.

But you wear this stuff?!

Yeah on an occasion we have a date.

I think we said all we needed to say with the original "IT." Must we update a story that was held together only by Tim Curry to begin with? Must we go tropical?

Well they're doing it anyway, so they might as well get Curry back in the big shoes. :P

Tim Curry was hilarious in National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1. A good cast with some funny cameos, very underrated movie.

Are all of you so young that none of you have seen "The Rocky Horror Picture Show?" It's like, Tim Curry at his finest. He plays Frank-N-Furter, a scientist.

I saw it, I enjoyed it. Tim Curry is hilarious in that movie. The supporting cast is also brilliant.

One of My favorite Tim Curry movies is Scary Movie: 2. He steals the show until he is killed off in it.

How can we have a Tim Curry thread where nobody mentions "The Rocky Horror Picture Show?" It's like, the best Tim Curry movie there is!

What, does no-one remember him as Pretorius in the TV version of The Mask? Doesn't sound like him at all, but that's a testament to his range. It does say on the VHS box, "And Tim Curry as Pretorius."

I find it quite odd that I actually have something to contribute to this thread.

Anyone seen Ridley Scott's Legend? It's very Zelda-esque, very surreal and unique. Once you get past the quirkiness of the film, it's quite good. Tim Curry (in a very Ganonesque role) completely steals the show.

Apt comparison, Phlibbit. Many people actually believe that Legend ripped-off/copied the Zelda series despite being released before it; still others consider the original Zelda game to have been the adaptation. Either way, it's probably the closest we'll get and undeniably a good one.

I've seen some really bad movies where he's been the only good part. I mean McHale's Navy was pretty much a dud except for him and Ernest Borgnine. He does a lot of voice work for cartoons and you don't know it if you don't read the cast area as it flashes past. I still love him as the Butler in Clue.

Tim Curry's been in his share of trashy films, like that animated "Christmas Carol" where he voiced Scrooge and Whoopi Goldberg voiced... some other character. I would love to see a live-action "Christmas Carol" with Tim Curry as Scrooge, though.

I love that movie. It's a classic right up there with Labyrinth and The Neverending Story as far as fantasy films go. I myself am a big Tim Curry fan, my favorite film with him is Clue. I've loved Rocky Horror for a long time. The theatre group that I'm involved in, 20 Cent Fiction, at UMASS Dartmouth (college I went to) puts on Rocky every Halloween weekend. I once played Brad in it, haha.

But yeah, Tim Curry rocks. Anyone ever see him in Spamelot?? :D

A-HEM-HEM! *points Billbot to my first comment above* And he was hilarious.

What else can I bring up? Oh yes...he was the Prosecutor in the "Trial" sequence from Roger Waters: The Wall Live in Berlin 1990; he was in a recent episode or two of Criminal Minds; he was the evil scientist Farley Claymore in The Shadow (opposite Ian McKellen as Dr. Reinhardt Lane); and he did the voice of KIng Frederick Acorn in SatAM.

I think he almost voiced the Joker in Batman: The Animated Series, but dropped out.
