80s nostalgia thread

Postby Wesr » Sun Jan 15, 2012 10:39 pm

I didn't see a thread for this so I figured I'd start one. I've been trying to track down bits and pieces of 80s goodies. Posters, toys, and such. The ones I thought of today was those gummy bracelets, snap bracelets (the spring steel ones), those pocket games that had 2 games with magnetic pieces. Anyone else have little remembered items like this to add to the list?

I bought a realist Uzi toy at a yard sale. it's from 1986. It uses those cap strips that explode when you apply pressure to it. sadly the battery house was badly corroded so It can never be fired again. However it looks too real so that might not be a bad thing. :P

Were either of you even born in the 80s? I wasn't even born until late 1987, I have little to no recollection of the 1980s other than it was full of hair-feathering freaks who had poor taste in music.
What would you do without your big brother?
I'd like to give it a shot and find out.

You may very well be the oldest member of the site, though I know there's a couple of other members nearing 30.

I'm big on the '80s, especially the movies. The '80s were just a great time for fun, original stories and practical effects. It was a much different sensibility than what Hollywood is currently doing.

The fashion is also great. Other than the hair the girls were damn fine. My girlfriend currently has a look from that era and boy is it some eye-candy.

I love the fashion of the 80s and even girls with big hair. I wish i'd been older then to enjoy it more. Guess that's why i'm doing all this retro goody buying. Kinda funny since my girlfriend wasn't born until 1986 then again she fits in with the rest of the 80s collection

Let's not foget the awesome Cartoon Shows, like G.I Joe, Transformers, The Real Ghostbusters, The Super Mario Brothers Super Show.
Isn't this a little feminine?

Yes. I know. It was my ex wife's.

But you wear this stuff?!

Yeah on an occasion we have a date.

Plus Captain N, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Garfield and Friends...

Much as I loved the 80's, I have a difficult time separating it from the 90's-- the early 90's, at the very least-- because so much of what I was into bled over.

I agree. To me things from the 80s carried over until like 1991-1992 that's when the 90s started to define themselves. I miss sitcoms.

You people and your 80s. Your precious 80s. You know, it would have gone on being the 70s if it wasn't for people like you.

i'd have even settled for the 70s to have kept going lol. Actually no the 70s was pretty lame but the 50s was good and parts of the 60s were okay other than the hippies.

I can't reasonably claim any authentic nostalgia for/from the 1980s. Born in '87, you see...Power Rangers, Animaniacs, the rise of Pixar, and Batman: The Animated Series are about the only good things I can think of for the 90s...much of it, as I recall, was utter crap. Didn't get into the Sega/Nintendo thing until the latter half of the 90s, so I can't say anything for that.

"You'll get caught up in the--CROSSFIRE!" Please. Shooting ball bearings at a board with a launcher that doesn't work half the time, trying to get a rolly thing into a goal? Go back to the drawing board...you know who you are.
