Adventure Time Thread

Postby superwesleybros » Sun Jan 22, 2012 6:06 pm

Adventure Time is a cartoon that has many parallels to Mario, It's a cartoon that is fun for alot of demographics. The show is about Finn the Human and Jake the magical Dog who go on random adventures. Finn and Jake are like the Mario Bros, They have to Rescue many Princess's mainly Princess Bubblegum from the Ice King. The Ice King acts like Bowser a lot.

I for one love it, It's my third favorite cartoon besides....The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 and Batman: The Animated Series.

So has anyone seen Adventure Time? Do you like it? Hate it? what are your thoughts on this fun show?

I'm a huge fan of the show and oddly enough if you look at the subject matter with it being post apocalyptic it could actually be a very dark cartoon if they wanted it to. I didn't realize it was post apocalyptic at first until i noticed all the ruins and unexploded bombs you see. I bet most kids that watch it haven't even caught on. The xmas special that tells the history of Ice King was a surprisingly serious one and you feel for him instead of thinking of him as nut job. I want to see another Fiona and Cake episode though as it was a neat change.

The show leaves a ton of questions unanswered like was Marcelline a vamp before the war and how'd Susan's people get underground in what seems like it was meant to be a shelter.

I had an idea for a fanfic that has Finn wake up in the real world to realize he had been having a fever dream and all the people in it are either folks he knows or people he lost when the bombs fell and the outside world is at the start of nuclear winter. My one friend said that was way too dark for a kid's show though

Exactly, that's why I love this show so much. *Fistbump*

I wish they'd just come out and say that Susan is human, I mean we already know by Finn's reaction that she is. I'm betting they're somehow related given the blond hair.

Yeah, I'd like to see a little more backstory on Finn, like who his parents were.

Those are themes present in a lot of adventure stories, particularly cartoons. Sure, you can draw parallels, but in the end it's just the same archetypes being reused time and again in an effective way.

I've seen the show and do enjoy it. For awhile there we had a severe lack of any consistent or enjoyable cartoons outside of Avatar: The Last Airbender. It wasn't until Chowder and The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack premiered that we started to see a resurgence of Golden Age cartooning fun. Both shows unfortunately dropped in quality after the first few seasons and were eventually canceled, but the paved the way for Adventure Time.

Adventure Time takes what those two shows did right while avoiding the pitfalls of pure randomness. It's a show you can enjoy episode-by-episode or as an ongoing series. There's continuity if you're looking for it or just plain random fun.

Anyone else notice Marceline seems able to age herself? In some episodes she's skinny and undeveloped and then in others (especially the one where they have to form a band to open the door) she suddenly is curvy and looks 20.

Never paid enough attention to notice, but that's probably just different animators drawing her in their own way. They did that a lot in Flapjack, which creator Pendleton Ward also worked on.

The wiki said that it's part of her shapeshifting powers so who knows. Maybe she goes into her adult shape when around Princess bubblegum since the princess is 18 and when it's just finn and jake she hangs out as a girl his age.

They got new character designers for the 3rd Season.
