One of the best systems ever put out, no argument. Brought us into the 64-bit era with such classics as Super Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie and Donkey Kong 64. Platformer heaven as well as party central for anyone with three or four controllers.
However, a severe lack of games. Far too much vaporware and canceled titles to count. Mario Party 2 and Mario Kart 64 just aren't enough to maintain my parties anymore. So, what are your thoughts on the system and does anyone have any multiplayer recommendations for me?

Goldeneye, F-Zero X, Rampage: World Tour, Rampage 2: Universal Tour, Snowboard Kids, Snowboard Kids 2, Super Smash Bros. (the original) and Bomberman 64 are good games for multiplayer on the N64.

I'd like to give it a shot and find out.

I'm really wanting to pick up S.C.A.R.S. if I can find it cheap somewhere. Supposed to be a pretty fun racing/multiplayer game, N64 "hidden gem," as it were.

I just love Mario 64 its the first game to ever let the character rome around as much as they wanted to explore areas. I used to play the first world just to run around and shut it off. Goldeneye though is probably hands down the best first person shooter ever made.
Re: N64 Discussion/Recommendations
I finally managed to find a copy of S.C.A.R.S. at the local flea market, so I'm pretty excited to give this hidden gem a shot. Will post thoughts sometime in the future.

As a huge fan of the original DOOM and DOOM 3 I considered getting Doom 64, but after watching gameplay video it just seems far inferior in terms of both graphics and atmosphere.

Add Star Fox 64 and Perfect Dark to the list of fun multiplayer games. This is also one of my favorite systems. Just recently beat Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, helped me get back in the Zelda spirit for Skyward Sword, haha.

Ocarina of time is such a good game I love it. Though I got half way through on the 64 version, I beat the 3DS version which I think is way better imo. Started to play the master quest but stopped since I found it boring playing the same game again. Im sure I'll play it again when I get in the Zelda mood. I tried playing Major's Mask after beating OoT, but it just didn't have that same feel.
I never really played Perfect Dark on the 64, I downloaded it on 360 and enjoyed the multiplayer since all the levels are ripped from Goldeneye(screw Call of Duty, and all those other fps games, Goldeneye is the best, even the remakes good).
I remember when the 64 first came out and all there was was SM64, and Pilot Wings. Obviously SM64 was the winner.
I also really enjoy Shadows of the Empire, the VC on Wii releases all the SNES SW games, I don't see why they can't put that up for dl. It was what got me into Star Wars to be honest, same with Goldeneye getting me into James Bond.
I used to have a toys r us mail video of Star Fox 64 as a promo, I just recently watched it on youtube, I love how Sega and Sony kidnapped Mario and forced the pilot, and Bob to talk about the game. "This, is the rumble pak!" Is a quote I still find amusing and will say in my mind. Id really like to play the 3DS remake, but I can hold off on it for a while.

This one's a little more obscure, but it's my favorite video-game of all time. Harvest Moon 64, also known as Ranch Story 2 in Japan. It fetches for a pretty penny nowadays, but it's worth every nickel.

I remember reading about that game via Nintendo Power and definitely choosing which wife I wanted before even ever playing it!
My brothers are totally into the GCN and Wii versions right now.

The GameCube version "A Wonderful Life" is a remake of "64," and the Wii versions are pretty pathetic and pale in comparison to the originals.

For those interested, RareMinion has posted a couple of pretty lengthy videos of unreleased gameplay footage from Rare's Dinosaur Planet and Twelve Tales: Conker 64:
